I have two, 4 month old kittens that I will be taking with me on my move in either October or November. By then they will be 8 months old but either way, I have not moved before and have no clue how to go about it. I read the one article here but it will be for a while and on a bus. I also have been trying to find a cat carrier that I can keep with me on said bus that's under $30.00 but I don't know what would be best.

Should I not feed them the whole 28 hours? That sounds rather neglectful...

If push comes to shove then I might have to take only one since it seems like one of them panics easily. Just yesterday she got stuck in a tree and started what seemed like hyperventilating. The other, a male, is pretty chill even at 4 months old.

I agree that 28 hours is too long to go without food.  There are calming treats you can give the kittens.  Would it be possible to break up the trip, get off the bus and stay in a motel over night so the kittens can get out and stretch their legs.  What are you going to do about bathroom breaks?

@Handsome Kitty

Well, I'll at first be on the bus from FL to Tx for 15 hours so I think I might be able to do the no food and water thing there since I'll be doing the same.

After that I'll be in a car with other people and their pet so they will more than likely take breaks since they have a dog. I'm hoping we don't need a hotel since that significantly takes out of my budget for eating.

I think you should at least offer water.  it's not good for cats to go without food and water.

@Handsome Kitty  Yeah that's true. I'm just not sure where I would put the pee pad once they do mess since the stench it very strong.

Speak to the bus driver when you get on. I'm sure he will be making stops and he may let you get off to toss it in the trash.  Otherwise I recommend ziplock freezer bags.

You will need a carrier that is large enough for the cat(s), a litter box, and space for a food/water bowl.

I do not suggest just placing a pee pad in the carrier unless you cats are accustom to using them. It's more likely to get ripped/shredded than actually used for a potty.

I also suggest using a pellet-type litter (Yesterday's News, Blue Buffalo Pellet, Feline Line Pellet, etc) as this will be MUCH less messy than a clay-based litter and will be easier to clean.

Not going to lie, I think it's doubtful you will find a suitable carrier under $30. But, maybe if it has been pre-used or if you find one on sale?

I am thinking something like this:

@CatPack  Those sounds great and ideal but there's no way I can have a huge carrier to fit all that in a bus seat and then in a car that barely will fit 3-4 people, a dog, and whatever they'll be having in it during the move. I think I'll buy them a harness and see if I can get them potty trained. Not sure I can, though. Fortunately, these kittens are super bright!

I like the harness idea.  You can leave it on them  and then hook up the leash if you need to open the carrier.
