Cat shedding like crazy

My tortie/tabby mix kitty Spencer is turning 1 next month, and she's been shedding like crazy ever since I switched her food to Purina One. I can't switch her back to her old food because we suspect she was allergic to something in it (did about a month and a half of antibiotics which didn't resolve anything until we changed her food). I'm wondering if the shedding is due to diet and if there's anything I can do. There's cat hair everywhere and she never shed like this before.

It could be from the diet change but if she is doing well on the Purina One and no signs of allergies - keep up with it!! It could be that she is growing her adult coat in and releasing her kitten coat OR that she is beginning her fall shed a bit early OR she is doing mid-summer shed which some cats are doing right now too. I assume she is spayed so it wouldn't be her hormones causing the shed. I would get to brushing and combing her on a daily basis right now to help keep the hairball build-up down. You could even use a Furminator - gently - to pull some of the loose hair out and then go over her with a fine toothed comb. I love combs for short hair kitties. There is also the Zoom Groom.
