Hello!

My cat is 2 years old, but he was a baby when he was given to me and I don't know what does his parents look like.

He darkened a lot since the moment we first met. ( I added one picture/year below).

A friend of mine suggested Siamese ancestors. And today, I learned about Lynx point siamese.

Looking at pictures of Lynx point siamese, I would say Moka is one, but he has wide white marking. Also each hair of the colored zones is striped, i don't know if it is helpful... :)

I know he as no pedigree, so he is no pure breed, (at this point, I'd like to apologize for my english because I'm not fluent and I try my best to translate ^^'), but could you tell me more about my cat?

Is he lynx point? And more important, is Lynx point a "breed" or a marking?

.

Yes, he is a lynx point, or tabby point if you want.  He is even a mitted lynx point, ie tabby point and white.   And yes, these are the pattern, not the breed.

Although in one association, with colored point they mean a siamese with not allowed colors.

Re his ancestry?   The point gene comes from siameses, so he does has some siamese ancestry.  But we cant know when - it may be 50 generations back too!

The point gene flows in the genetic pool.  Its recessive, and being alone its quite weak.  Almost any other gene is stronger!

BUT doubeld up, one from mom, one from dad - it springs suddenly into life, and gives the kittens its almost whole appearance.   A point with blue eyes and all is born!  They are born as almost white, and darkens up with time, the pointed parts of the body first.

The exact body colors comes from the parents.  So we know at least one of his parents was a tabby,  and one carried much white.    He seems to be blue, ie a diluted black.  so his parents were also carrying black and the diluting gene...

I mean, they themselves werent by any means necessary points themselves - very probably they werent.  But they carried the colors he does carry.

A nice chap!

Oh thank you very much for your clear and precise answer!

As this pattern comes from a ressessive genes, is it common? I never saw a cat with such pattern since few weeks ago. :)

And what about his overall body and head shape?

Here is a closeup of Moka's back hair, so you can see clearly his color. I would never thought he is blue!  (his paws are brown, just in case it helps)

Blue is really another name for grey, so the exact nuance can differ.   It may be someone more knowleable in cat colors will give you still more exact name for the exact nuance...  :)
