Dear Forum Members,

I am writing because I am in despair. Maybe one of you knows or have heard about the problem that our cat developed last Saturday. He started jumping and screaming as if somebody attacked him. It feels like he has a pain.

We took him to the emergency room, then our vet, then the special clinic. He got worse and he started urinating and defecating every time he thinks he is going to be attacked. Before that he was very sweet, now he growls at us too and we were not able to give him medication.

He is a the special clinic now. The 4th doctor has done all the possible tests including CT scan, blood work, urine test and others, but all of them came back negative. The clinic people are keeping him hydrated, but he does not eat and he is still grumpy.

They gave him a shot of steroids yesterday and today were able to check him up. His temperature was alleviated slightly. They do not know what is wrong with him.

If we bring him back and his pain is like it was when we took him to the clinic, it is a terrible quality of life.

I read in one of the messages the answer about the University of Tennessee.

I will appreciate any advice or suggestion.

May all your wonderful cats  live very long and healthy life with you.

Poor thing!

What was he doing before he started jumping/ screaming? Have the clinic established that it is pain, or where the pain is?

Tell us a bit more about your cat.

The cat is 7 years old and used to be a big jumper. He has lived with his sister for all his life. Two months ago he fell and was obviously in pain for a while, but we monitored him very carefully, and he recovered and become himself again.

Last Saturday I was on the floor doing yoga postures, and the cat came to say hello. I picked him up and gently put his back on my shoulder. He screamed, scratched me and started hissing. Then the cat went downstairs, but after a couple of hours he came back and started looking as there was something that attacked him. It got worse in the evening and we took him to the emergency clinic.
When the vet picked him up, he jumped and screamed. An x-ray did not show anything.  We brought him home with a medication.

He got worse we took him back to the emergency clinic. He had another attack in front of another doctor. At this time he peed and defecated in the cage. The blood test did not show anything. The doc gave another medication and we brought him home. I decided to take the cat  to our vet. She said the same and gave another medication in tablets. Even without the tablets, he go a little bit better. But the next day the cat started hissing and growling at us and I realized how can we give him  medication.
So we decided to take him to the specialist and see if something is wrong with his spine. He has been there since Wednesday morning and they have done all possible tests, but nothing has been found. The cat is the same, but now he is more miserable and he does not jump anymore.

I apologize for telling so much. I am on the internet trying to see if  there is something I can discover, but so far no luck.

Have you considered chiropractic?  Before my cat was diagnosed with pancreatius she stopped jumping up.  Her legs hurt her and she would often think I was attacking her and would turn around , hiss, and bite at me.

I could not rule out if she fell...as a dare devil she could have fallen down the stairwell and hit herself on the banister.

I took her to the chiropractor. He looked at her x-ray, and started to adjust her. She turned her hind end to him and as he started to adjust her I felt her immediately relax. She was sore for about 2 days, but after that she started jumping small heights, and felt much better.

JosieWozy,

Thank you very much for telling me about the chiropractic. I hope he will be in a stable condition that we can take him when we get him back from the vet clinic. This is his third major disease. First two were a surgery to retract a dental floss and urinary tract obstruction. Fortunately they were a few years apart.

It looks like no matter how careful I try to be with my pets, there is always something that I cannot prevent. Not to get scared and resist what I cannot change, I try to take one day or minute at a time. Cats and dogs are great teachers when it comes to that.

Could he have trapped a nerve or pulled a muscle as as he was put on your shoulder? Can be very painful! Sounds like the chiropractor session helped- what did he think?

Hi again,

Our cat is back from the hospital. The papers say that the vets do not know the reason of his problem.  The cat got much better during the last four days so we called doctor and asked if it were OK to let him out from the isolated area. The doc agreed, but told us to keep watching the cat.

The cat has been on steroids and antibiotics since coming back from the hospital. We let him out to roam around the house this morning. This early afternoon he jerked and screamed again, ran downstairs and hissed at me. I closed him downstairs.  I am so scared that his disease will come back and nobody knows the problem, and we do not know what else can be done!!!

If he does not get worse, we could take him to the chiropractor or a holistic vet for a check up.
