My senior cat (12 years old) is driving me crazy. He is constantly yowling...mostly at night but sometimes even when we are home and awake. It's very loud! He does it several times in the night and I can't figure out what else to do. It's bad enough that it wakes both my husband and I.

- He's been to the vet - no UTI.
- We regularly scoop and change his cat box.
- I've tried Feliway diffusers to help comfort him because we did just recently move into a new/bigger apartment but it didn't make a difference at all.
- I changed his feeding schedule to make sure he had a full belly to last him through the night until his morning feeding.
- I've tried a night light in darker parts of the apartment in case it was a visual issue.
- I bought new catnip toys hoping the stimulation would help him stay occupied.

He didn't start doing it until we moved into our new place but that's also about the same time I became pregnant. He's always been a chatty cat but rarely ever yowled like he has been. I just don't know what else to do. I'm pregnant and am worried about him continuing this behavior when the baby gets here. Anyone who's ever had a child knows that any disturbances in an infant's sleep schedule is never pleasant.

Has anyone else experienced this before? What else can I try that I haven't already?

I've had him since he was 6 weeks old and I'm terrified that I'm going to have to send him to my parents place when the baby gets here because I can't have him disrupting the baby's sleep.

PLEASE HELP! Any suggestions are welcomed!

Welcome to TCS!

It sounds to me like it's got something to do with your new place.  Are there other cats outside your place at night?  Have other pets lived there previously?

We live on the 3rd floor, so no cats are visiting in the middle of the night. And, our complex is a new build so we are the first tenants. We also live in a corner apartment so we only have one neighbor and the neighbors don't have cats either. [emoji]128533[/emoji]

i wasn't having much luck with the feliway when my 8 y/o was having behavior problems so i got one of the sentry calming collars and he is one chill cat now, lol.

it sounds like this is post moving stress. my cat hid in a closet for a month after we moved while our other one was out exploring the next day. moving is just very stressful for some cats. he's a beautiful boy!

The change in homes and your pregnancy is likely the reason; as you've stated he's been to the vet to rule out medical conditions. I'm not much on advising how to change his behavior other than patience and love and what you've already done. However, I'm a mom of 3 human children and currently have 4 dogs and 5 cats. I have always had pets. My oldest daughter (18 yrs) had 2 dogs and 3 cat companions when she was born. Same with daughter #2 who is (15 yrs). When my son was born 5 years ago I had 5 dogs and 5 cats. My babies and yours too hear all the normal sounds of home. Those sounds in my house included barking dogs (situationally or from the back yard), meowing kitties waiting for food, rambunctious and loud sisters who were in 4th grade and 7th grade. You will be surprised at how little the baby will startle at familiar sounds. Most people love to give the advise to make sure you do NOT get baby used to only sleeping in a quiet atmosphere.
I just wanted to hopefully settle your mind that your beautiful baby was made for you and your household and if your kitty is just needing extra time to settle in then I'd say that's not so bad.

PS I also sympathize with you needing your rest. Being pregnant is not easy!

Hope it all works out, there are so many great people on here to help and advise on specific behaviors. :)

I will definitely check into the Calming Collar. I'm just so frustrated. I want to help him but so far I feel defeated.
