My cat has the same issue and I am seeking help, she is 1yrs old and weighs 9.6lbs a little over weight but I am giving her the right food and I am trying to find ways to exercise her, I have a 1 story house and have no interest in getting another cat, and I need help with ideas to get her moving, I try to get her to play with her favorite toy but she seems to struggle getting up, I can taunt her with it in the air but she's still laying down.(PLEASE HELP!)

Have you tried using Da bird toy with her? This is the only toy that makes my three year old cat run around and jump up into the air. It may look like a normal feather wand, but it actually is very attractive to cats because of the way that it moves.

I think it's great that you are trying to address this now before she becomes even more overweight. Boredom and inactivity in indoor-only cats is a real concern and fortunately, there are things we can do to improve the situation.

We have a few articles which I think can really help you with this -

Also, you may want to look into creating a self enclosure for her -

There are lots of different toys. Also, different ways to feed a cat. You can try leading her around with some treats to make her jump onto high places like her cat tree. placing treats as you go. There are treat balls, and things like that. Theres even a cat wheel funnily enough lol

by the way, its too bad you dont want another cat. I dont blame you as its more expensive. But i got another cat for my 4 year old cat to hang out with. Kitty used to be 12.3 lbs and shes lost weight. Shes more active and running around. She used to sleep a lot, i would try to play with her and she wasnt interested in toys anymore. Now shes running after my other cat. lol

Whenever your cat is steady and not asleep (e.g. she has just come back from the outdoors, if she does go outdoors), grab her attention by grabbing her favourite toy, or any one; I would suggest using one that is dangling from a stick, so she will jump and get into the action, and once she realizes you are trying to get her up and moving, she will play and move around. If she just ignores it and goes back to sleep, consult a vet to check if anything is hurting her or there is a reason for her not wanting to be active.
