Blind cat not pooping in litter box

Hi

I realize there already is a very similar thread but I didn't want to hijack it. My 15 year old doesn't poop in the box either but she has another problem, she's blind. Normally that doesn't hamper her; she knows the house better than I do. But lately she began not using the litter box. She was peeing, always in the same place but I shampooed, used copious amounts of urine remover and "roped off" the area with string. That seems to have stopped it. But she still #2s outside the box pretty much always in the same place. We keep a litter box in the powder room which is accessed by a short (3ft) hall way. She goes either in the powder room or in the hallway just outside the powder room door. Incidentally, we have hardwood floors. The other day I found poo in the pantry hallway just opposite where she usually goes. When she goes I clean the floor thoroughly but she doesn't stop.  Since she goes in the same place and and she's blind I'm guessing it's a locational issue: she knows where the litter box is and she gets close. For some reason she thinks "close enough"  Any thoughts on correcting this? Thanks

instead of thoroughly cleaning the spot, how about moving the litter box to that spot? after a few days of success you can slowly move the box towards where you want it and she should follow.

Move the litter box there and put something easy to clean under it.  Look around at a hardware store for something inexpensive and easy to wipe clean?   Your kitty is obviously doing the best she can!  She's blind and a senior citizen.

The rule is one litter box per cat plus one.  So it's a good thing to offer your cat more than one choice of litter boxes.  Some cats will #1 in one place and #2 in the other.

I am Mommy to a 7 month old kitten.  According to veterinary opthamologist she has most likely been impaired since before birth  or immediately following.  Her littler box is in a hall that leads to the laundry room and garage and can be very dark when the lights are off.  For some reason she started pooping in her bed.  When I leave a light on in the hall she uses her littler box every time I'm not quite sure how she knows the light is on.  Or perhaps I am just a crazy cat lady :)
