@patb   I am so sorry that you lost one of the kittens, but listen to your vet:  this fading kitten syndrome just happens and there is no logic to which little ones it takes.  There is nothing you could have done differently to save this kitten, and you have 3 lovely surviving kittens that continue to need endless attention reminding you that you are doing something right here.  That something is giving your home, your time and your love to keep these precious kittens alive and with a chance of finding a loving home.  Try to focus on them to help you feel more positive today, and remind yourself what a wonderful thing you are doing.

Good question. He wasn't until last week. He actually has a twin that was identical - couldn't tell them apart. He just stopped eating. I put him back on the bottle and he would get better but only for short periods of time. Who knows?
If he was as big as the others, and suddenly stopped to grow, and even rapidly fell down in weights,  I suspect  some body system stopped to function...  So it was his fate to be no more.

To receive your care and your love was his part in the life here.

RIP little one.

Tx for caring!   Warm hugs!

Good luck!

I would like to thank everyone again for the kind words and support. I am posting a couple of pics so you can see the kittens for yourselves. The first is Postingof the kitten that died yesterday. As you can see, he is healthy. That was only a week ago!

He looks like he was a very healthy kitten, and a nice litter too!

They look great!

But a word of caution: they do not need to play outside at this young age. There are too many things they can pick up such as fleas and parasites, and as they grow, you will have a hard time retrieving them to go back inside. Kittens should not go out until they are at least nine months old.

They were living outside when I got them. I keep them inside and take them out only for a few minutes each day. The pic of the two on grass is as far as they have ever gone since I got them. The vet checked the one I brought in and he had no worms or parasites. When I return them, they will be outside cats again.

Will they be spayed/neutered before becoming outdoor kitties?

I don't know, but I doubt it. The people who own them usually have numerous cats around all the time. I talked to the owner today and someone had abandoned a 6 - 8 week old kitten near their home last week. They took it in as usual. I doubt they could afford fixing 5 kittens.

Can you try to re-home these kittens for her then? To homes that will vaccinate and fix them?

To give them back knowing they will face such a tough life of not being fixed is awful in my opinion.

Repeated pregnancies and tom catting? An uncertain future with no vet care?

You have saved these babies but I am not sure from what, really.

Please talk to your friend about you finding forever homes for these precious babies and lifting her burden.

They deserve homes and a good life and that means spaying and neutering.

I gasped when I saw them out on the grass, these kittens have not had any vaccines yet and will get panleukopenia and die from it.

It's the cat form of puppy parvo, is highly contagious and lives in grass for years, so it lies and waits for healthy kittens just like these to come along and strike.

PLEASE don't take them outside!

I can try. They will give them vet care - vaccinations, worming, etc. their cats are not wild, they are well cared for. I will ask about getting homes for them. I believe a couple are promised to relatives. They will be cared for and loved.

But they apparently do not spay and neuter, which perpetuates a problem. I hope you can help deal with this, at least for these two kittens. Thanks.
