Hi everyone! This is my first post here and I have to say, I love how informative this site is!
Anyway, I just got a 10-11 week old kitten yesterday. It won't eat, drink, or use the litter box. I have dry food and wet food, as well as toys out for it. Water and litterbox are out too and everything is behind the couch...where it is hiding. It will come out at night and lay on me and purr lol, which I woke up to yesterday. It will also purr and let me pick it up or pet it. Doesn't run, but won't play or eat the food. I know it's probably still nervous about the new place but I feel bad for it. Is this normal and is there anything I can do to coax it to eat/drink?

PS- not sure if male or female so I use it :)

Your best bet is to confine your new baby to a small bedroom or bathroom. Preferably with no furniture to hide under that you cannot access the kitten. You can use cardboard boxes, beds, etc to offer safe places to hide.

It's possible that the kitten is just scared; but, little ones cannot go very long without eating.

Some suggestions...
Get some Gerber stage 2 Turkey&Gravy or Chicken&Gravy. Make sure it's the kind without onion or garlic. Just meat, broth and corn starch. You can also get some goat's milk (no cow's milk) and see if the kitten is temped by this.

If kitten still hasn't eaten anything doing all the above, I would suggest a vet visit to make sure everything is ok and that kitten is not dehydrated.

Congratz on your new baby "IT" :) I want to start with the question you didn't ask. Boy or girl? its pretty easy to tell since "it" will let you pick "it" up. Take a quick look and you'll know.

Is your kitten skinny? or lethargic? If he looks good and is 50% active 50% sleep then just keep an eye on "it".

Also, have you tried the high-end treats? if "it" doesn't eat that then you might have a problem.

So I've looked and I'm fairly certain it's a male. I've tried party mix hard treats but apart from sniffing at it, nothing. Unless he snuck water when I was away I don't think he's drank anything. He looks fine and is alert. He wandered around the house a bit earlier but decided to hide out in the closet now. I feel bad for him since I am moving and we are going to be on the road tonight for four hours.
