he's not a picky eater they have salmon or Chicken Flavor for the Authority Grain Free
would you recommend Salmon or Chicken
I would go with Chicken, just because I, personally, don't like to feed too much fish.

he likes. Both flavors
would you recommend the 8 pound bag or the 18 pound bag
Whichever is the least expensive per pound, which is probably the 18 pound bag, IF you are sure he'll like it.  But check their return policy...I think you can probably it for your money back just in case, as long as it's half full and you do it within 30 days.

Also, you mentioned he is out of dry food until Friday., AND that he always seems hungry.  What are you going to feed him until Friday??  And is it possible that you haven't been feeding him enough and that's why he has lost weight?  If he always seems hungry, I would guess it's because he isn't eating enough, particularly since he isn't even maintaining.  Some cats, especially if they are really active, need up to 35 calories per lb of body weight (what they SHOULD weigh, not what they actually weigh)  One bowl of food doesn't really tell us anything, because it depends on what the food is, the size of the bowl, and any other food he  may get
.

Maybe this article will help you in determining how much he should be eating:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-much-food-should-i-feed-my-cat

One of the best brands of wet food is Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken, none of that stuff you listed plus carageen and guar gum free.. Also if you feed dry food but its best not to, a good brand is Orijen.. Excellent ingredients as far as dry food goes and no grain or potato.. Personally I feed raw.. With the guidence and proper steps per my holistic veterinarian.. You should do your research well if you decide to feed raw. Anyways, Hope this helps :) and generally rule of thumb is about 20calories per pound of body weight.  if active, more is best. id talk to your veterinarian to figure out his weight and calories
Weruva's foods are good, though Paw Lickin' Chicken does have potato starch and the OP had specifically mentioned potato-free. Weruva's Cats in the Kitchen foods, though, don't have potato and they're lower in price.

So what HAVE you fed him since no one has responded and you ran out of food yesterday?  If you have any chicken, for a few days, you can poach up some chicken and then boil some rice in the broth you used to cook the chicken and feed that to him.  Just be sure not to use any seasonings or onions or garlic or anything.  And NO BONES.  This will be ok for a couple of days only as it is not nutritionally complete.  Neither is feeding dog food, especially dry dog food.  Some canned dog food is identical to the canned cat food version, but not all.

How did the Vet visit go?  Did he get a clean bill of health?

Did you get him some food?  What did you end of getting?  Does he like it?

Mainly just checking in

The most  important thing here (sorry if this sounds like a broken record) is to pinpoint the reason  for the weight loss in the first place.

Aside from that, a mix of wet and dry is fine. You already have some good suggestions for brands etc. Just keep in mind that no one can tell you what your cat likes - only he can. The best food in the world is useless unless it gets into the cat!

Do let us know how the vet visit went

How is your cat doing @Mary21  ?   I hope things went OK for the vet appointment yesterday.

I was taking a look at your previous thread earlier and noticed you talked about your cat shedding badly after you brought him home from the shelter too:  wondering if there has been some health issue around from when you picked him up, if he has been wormed or anything which might explain the loosing weight while eating a lot and coat not being in good condition.  Fingers crossed your vet has been able to help you and your 'blue one' - they are such gorgeous cats.

He may have been stressed following vet visit but it does sound very worrying.  Are you able to talk to another vet, or to the shelter you got him from?

Do you know if he has been wormed?

Which type of Friskies did you end up feeding him.  Only the PATE's are grain free.  All the others have wheat gluten, etc., which , if he has digestive issues, could pose a problem.   See my comments on your OTHER thread in Health
