My 12.5 year old cat gets 1 tsp of slippery elm syrup in the AM and PM before his meals to help with tummy issues/vomiting. He's incredibly finicky and won't eat anything mixed in his food so i have to give him his SE via a syringe. I'd like to get him on a probiotic, but every time i add some to his food he refuses it, even if its just a small amount. Do you think i could mix the probiotic into his SE syrup and give via syringe? I can't really see any reason why it would be bad to mix the two together but I'm not sure.

Thanks.

I wouldn't mix it.  I've read that SEB can interfere with absorption of other medications or nutrients and should be given separately.

Yeah, but probiotics don't get absorbed so it shouldn't be affected the same way other medications would. The only thing i can find online is a comment here from Dr. Hofve saying it should be okay because of that. Just wondered if anyone else had to use this approach with a finicky cat.

"Probiotics don’t get absorbed. They are intended to stay in the intestinal tract all the way to the colon, where they can support the bacterial population there. There’s no research to say (either way) how probiotics and slippery elm interact, but logic says there shouldn’t be a problem with the combination."
