Cat not showing affection

hey guys!

My cat Nova is about 2 years old and we got a now 4 mo old kitten, Fiur, about 2 months ago. They are getting along pretty well, and will eat and play together.

Before we got Fiur, Nova sat on my chest and legs whenever I was home and I loved our mornings together because she showed me so much love! Since we got Fiur, she hasn't sat with me at all. She is better about me petting her again, but won't come near me if Fiur is around (which is often, Fiur is very affectionate as well).

Do you think Nova will sit with me again after Fiur grows out of his kitten phase? I miss my Nova...

Welcome to the site! And, yes, I absolutely do think that Nova will come back around but right now her attention and mindset is all on Flur, the new addition! It sounds like they are getting along quite well and Nova is allowing Flur access to all of her special things and........ that includes YOU. I think it is very sweet of Nova. She sounds like a gem. :heart2: Just be patient with her and don't get stressed over it. Spend some extra time with Nova - LOTS of extra time, individually with her. Even if Flur interjects, try to distract him with a special toy, or even give Flur a treat ball to play with while you spend some special time with Nova.

Maybe start a routine in the mornings with Nova! Have some special treats in your nightstand and when you wake up - shake the bag to get her to come, even if Flur comes too and we know he will! In time, you will see, that Nova will settle back into a routine but right now this is all very exciting and she is adjusting to the big change along with everyone else. She will see that you have tons of love to go around for everyone but to me, it seems that Nova is very willing to share all of that. What a sweetie. I have had this happen as well with one or two over the years when adding another kitty. They eventually all get over the hype and return to their normal, demanding :heart3: little selves.
