I feel like I might have asked this one before...but I'm asking it anyway. Or maybe I just need sleep?

What was the first concert you ever went to and how old were you?

I think I was about 8 or so when my mother and her friend took my cousin, her friend's daughter and I to see the New Kids on the Block in concert.  It was outdoors and I remember sitting way back from the stage but having a great time!  Mom even got me a t-shirt.
My cousin is 6 years older than me; so she was REALLY into the NKOTB phase.

Geez, the Grass Roots, maybe? I was a big GR fan back then when we first got married. We've been to a lot of concerts and my tastes have somewhat changed.

BTO (Backman, Turner, Overdrive).  A friend won 2 tix on the radio. Around 1976? If I remember right, the warm-ups were Twisted Sister and someone else I can't remember off hand .  It was in Nassau Coliseum and my friend and I were only 16, traveled from NJ out there. My parents had NO idea how far we were going.  We had to be home by midnight, so we left only about 3 songs into BTO to assure we got back to NJ in time.

It was the Rolling Stones Tour of the Americas and I was 15. That was back when you could smoke at concerts and the whole place smelled like burning rope. LOL.
Haha! Yes!

Funny thing is we went to see Rush a couple of weeks ago. First major concert we've seen in years, and the first together.

Both of us remarked it was the first time we'd ever been to one where the smell of pot wasn't totally wafting over everyone.  We missed that LOL

My mom once got totally stoned at a concert just from breathing the smoke. Or so she claims. . . :tongue2: ;).

I'm not sure I've ever been to a concert, exactly. I've been to Jazzfest (I don't much care for jazz but it's fun to hang out), events at fairs/parks, and the symphony, but I can't recall any actual concerts. I grew up overseas (no concerts for anything I'd know!) and I'm not really into music, so it's not high on my list, although I'd go to one if a friend asked me to go.

Several years ago, we went to NY to a concert. It was a smaller outdoor venue. We saw Deep Purple, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and I forget who else. Anyway, the smoke was floating all over the place. I can't say I didn't inhale either.
After the concert was over and we were on our way back home, I developed a bad case of the munchies. I didn't say anything to Rick, but when we came upon a WalMart, Rick turned in. He pulled over, stopped the car, looked at me, and said, "OMG, I am starving!" We got out and went in and bought all kinds of junk. We had chips and cookies and Pepsi and....well, we were definitely feeling the effects from the concert. As we got back on the road, I said, "Well! We haven't felt this way in a long time!" And life was good.

The Doobie Brothers, at SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center) in Saratoga, NY. i must have been about 13 years old then.

i really don't enjoy going to concerts, much prefer to watch them online or on dvd. it's the crowds, many people crowded together that make me uncomfortable.
