Hi everyone, I have a small issue regarding an indoor only senior cat i adopted a month ago named Sophie. You see, she's in excellent health, fully up-to-date on shots and everything but she just won't stop with the hairballs. She's long-haired but i brush her 2-3 times a week and she's even on hairball control food but she still does it. Sometimes it's even food like when she just ate and it's like she didn't even chew it up. My question is: how can i fix this? Should i just shave her i really don't want to but i will if i have to.

She looks beautiful. I'm just wondering whether there's something else making her sick? I can't think she needs shaving because she should be able to cope with her long coat. Is it worth having her checked in case, say, a food intolerance is to blame?

I think it might be stress or anxiety honestly. She seems to do it when left alone or not comforted by me constantly. We also have another cat that is pregnant but Idk if that has anything to do with it. She's only started this like three weeks ago and its not every day just sometimes and it varies how many times she does it within that day.

That sounds likely. They are such sensitive little critters! She's probably insecure because of the attention you need to give to the other kitty, but sounds like you're doing a great job to me! My cat worries me at times too, then the crisis seems to pass! Perhaps she's still settling in? You said she was a senior cat? Perhaps change takes longer to adapt to at her age!

I bet it had something to do with it. She stays right by me all day on my bed watching tv with me. She's always talking to me too. Lol what a chatterbox! If i leave the room she just waits by the door for me to return. She's very attached to me already but not So fond of my boyfriend. Her previous owner was an old woman who couldn't keep her anymore and her old name is Pat.she didn't respond to it so i named her Sophie instead. I don't think she likes men much either. She's getting better though as I've been having him pet her with me and such.

Sounds to me like you've hit the nail on the head. I bet she's jealous of your boyfriend. I think you're doing really well with her. My cat was a stray and is still very insecure, over grooming until his legs are bald and it can be over such little things-to us. I wish you and Sophie well and hope she gets over this very soon.

You might try grooming her every day instead of 2-3 times a week. Also, for a longhair cat a comb is better than a brush to get all the way through the undercoat.
