I pray for a good result after all she has been subject to. Those are very strong drugs and she is so little. Dig in a bit more Zoe baby. Love from Australia

New antibiotics 'seem' to be working....we are on day 4 of the Orbax. Remarkably Zoey is tolerating it very well!  She's eating and using the litter box like normal. No vomitting or diarrhea. Her temperatures have started to come down even without subQ fluids! Yesterday her highest temp was 101.9. YEAH!!

Its great to hear that Zoey's feeling better. I really hope these antibiotics are going to do the trick, and that her lungs are able to recover :cross:

With her drinking, have you come across [article="30756"][/article]? There are loads of ideas to get cats drinking more in there.

Thank you Columbine! I appreciate all the well-wishes we can get right now! I have read several articles on how to get your cat to drink more and have several bowls, various sizes and shapes, all over the house. I'm trying the ice cubes now and will be ordering a water fountain this afternoon. I've tried the tuna water and Zoey was not interested. She's never been a wet cat food kitty. Even the vet was surprised when they had her overnight, Zoey would always go for the dry food. At least she's not high maintenance in that department. HAHAHA!  I like the suggestion about putting a ping pong or float toy and may have to try this today. Knowing Zoey's crazy personality I'm sure she'll just play with it.  LOL!  Thanks again for the suggestions!  We're heading to the vet now for our morning check-up and meds.  Praying for another low fever and that the sneezing doesn't mean anything .

I am soooooo happy to see this update!!  Sounds like you're on a good path.  Thank you for not giving up on your little girl.  For the fluid intake, start feeding her canned food as it's got a lot of water in it and you can even add a teaspoon or so more to make it like thick oatmeal.  I've had good success with even finicky kittens when feeding Fancy Feast kitten, Royal Canin kitten (Babycat), and Innova EVO cat and kitten.  Also, if she'll still eat the Science Diet a/D from the vet, that would be really good for her for a couple of weeks.

Keep up the good work!!  She's such a precious little girl and I'm sure your love has kept her fighting.

Today's vet update...Zoey started the morning with a temp of 102.4, which I realize is the high side of normal. I asked the vet to please give her fluids this morning but he said a fever isn't bad and that they use her temps to see if the antibiotics are working. What I don't understand is if she feels better, eats, plays and acts "normal" when her temp is down, then why wouldn't they give her fluids until she fights off the infection? I tried pushing the vet to please give her fluids but he was pretty adamant about not giving them to her this AM. When we got home, Zoey played a little, didn't eat as much as the previous days and seemed to sleep more today. I took her back this afternoon for her second dose of meds and they checked her temp and said it was 101.5! Of course I was more than thrilled but it seems odd that Zoey has a pattern of elevated temps in the morning and lower in the afternoon. I trust that the vet is telling me the truth and not what I want to hear just to stop me from asking about giving her fluids. But it seems odd when throughout the day she didn't seem as active as other days. She slept nearly all day, in fact is still sleeping as I type. I asked the vet about her sneezing and he seems unconcerned relative to the other issues Zoey is dealing with. [emoji]128563[/emoji] (FYI...the vet on call over the weekend is not Zoey's usual vet. He's a little less empathic to our situation which in itself is frustrating) I just want so badly for this new antibiotic to be the right one to help her rid the infection. Today is dose 5 and they said she'll only get three more days. I'm so worried that her fever hasn't come down enough to truly indicate the infection is clearing up. I'm trying to stay optimistic but like I've said earlier after everything we've been through I'm sensitive to the slightest cough, fever, or sneeze. Praying my little munchkin keeps fighting!

By the way I asked the vet about her respiratory rate and it's still around 60 breaths per minute. Could that be due to only having 3 functioning lung lobes?

All i can say is 60/min is a lot, since 15-20 is normal

I have to start today's update with many heart felt "THANK YOU"s to everyone who has sent prayers and wishes to Zoey over the past few weeks!! They truly are helping because today we got some of the best news we've received since Zoey got sick! [emoji]128515[/emoji]

Our vet did an X-ray and bloodwork today to see how Zoey was progressing on the new meds. My expectations were not set high after all we've been through but I'm overjoyed to share that her X-ray showed major improvement!!! Not only did one of her clasped lobes show no sign of infection, it also showed that it had reinflated! YEAH! [emoji]128522[/emoji] Her lower left lobe that they told us last week showed signs of new pneumonia is now clear! The only down side is that her middle right lobe still shows infection, however the vet said its inflated slightly from last week! Zoey's bloodwork still showed an elevated WBC but not as high as the previous results. I think it went from 33k to 27k. Clearly a sign she's still fighting off something but combined with her X-ray the vet is ecstatic of her test results today!!

As you can imagine I've cried my amount of tears during all of this but today I started cried tears of joy when the vet showed me Zoey's results. [emoji]128514[/emoji] Zoey's is definitely my angel kitty! She's come such a long way. We're not totally out of the woods, but I'm so much more optimistic that she's going to beat this infection in the end. [emoji]128591[/emoji][emoji]127995[/emoji] Thank you again to everyone for your support! This site has been my savor when I needed comfort! [emoji]128149[/emoji] I'm hoping that today is just the start of many good posts to come. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

It is truly the best news we have all been waiting for. Now I don't want to put a dampener on everything, but just for a second think how did Zoey get sick in the first place Was she ill when the rescue people got her or did she get sick there. I know from experience that even best loved cats and the cleanest homes, and places  of rescue  they can still  pick up cat flu and other things off sick cats I mean  we might guess forever and never know from  where Zoey got so dreadfully sick. I give a heartfelt tick of approval to the  Vets who have worked tirelessly to help Zoey. I know this is beside the point but have you ever heard how her brother is doing? A loving meow from Australia.

If your cat is still sneezing ,coughing, or eyes and nose are drippings he could have a cold or better known as Herpe Virus .  It is usually treated with Lysine which can be purchased at Walmarts for about $6 a bottle for 500 ml tablets where they keep the vitamins.  Asked your vet about Herpe Virus- Its not treatable by antibiotics because its a virus not a bacteria l infection.  Cats usually show signs of herpe virus when their immune system is compromised by stress, sickness etc. kittens are usually given 500mg a day and adult cats about 750mg - 1000 mg a day for 7 days preferably in half a dosage in the morning and half a dosage in the evening..  I always have Lysine in the house for my cat flareups. GOOD LUCK
