Hi All,

I have been thinking for a while about buying a steam cleaner for the laminate floor in the great room and the ceramic in the kitchen.

Currently I am using what I consider a no-no...but it was not expensive. I am using a Swiffer Steam cleaner using distilled water and the disposable wet pads. It dries very fast in my apartment. I also take a big towel and wipe down the wet areas...I keep Artie in my bedroom until it is all dry.

Before I adopted Artie I used all the Swiffer products, but this is the only one I use now. I am using the Method line for cleaning...

The problem is: I really cannot afford much in way of one. I was hoping I could get some suggestions so I would not be wasting my money.

There are Sharks, Hoovers, Bissell,etc.....

And model numbers or names would be of a great help. I could even order it from Amazon if it is not in the stores near me.

I do have an Oreck Vacuum which is about 9 years old. and works great. Could afford the price, years ago--but not now.

I have asthma as well as looking out for something safe for Artie.

I am in the United States. I could pick one up at the local Target, or Walmart...I think they have the better prices...

Thank you in Advance....

I have one but haven't used it yet so can't tell you how good it is.
I did a lot of research first, though, and the #1 steam cleaners seem to be the Ladybug ones which cost about  about $2K. The second best is the one I bought, it's a McCulloch MC-1275 and they cost about $200. Evidently what you want to look for is a steamer that holds enough water so you don't have to refill constantly, and also heats the water up quickly. I don't know how helpful that is, but there you go.

We have a Bissell Animal steam cleaner. From Target. It works great on the vinyl tile in the kitchen and also the wood floor in the computer room. And it does well on cat puke stains on the carpet as well as the furniture. I have to admit, though, that I have never used it.
Rick is our steam cleaner. I don't know the model number....sorry. Am at work, but can find out when I get home. I don't think it was ridiculously expensive, but I don't remember.

I have the Eureka Enviro Steamer.  I let DH do the picking out because it was his idea.

I do like it though; as far as how it does with the floors.  It takes me longer than using a swiffer; but it does a good job.  We noticed right away that after we stopped using regular cleaners on the floor; the girls would eat food they'd dropped on the floor.  That was enough to prove to me that it was a better cleaning method.

The only 2 things I don't like are carrying it around the house to get from one room to the other and the handle becomes lose as you turn it.  The last time I mopped I actually managed to unscrew the whole pole from the unit.  I had to grab the mat it sits on when it's heating and pick it up by the piece that connects the pole to the mop itself.  The pole is adjustable and that loosens also.  So it gets a bit frustrating to use.

We have had the mop for 2 years; so they might have improved the handle, but I would check before getting this particular unit.
