So recently my kitten has been having some problems with the dry food that we have. We were using Purrfect Bistro cat food by Maverick, but now she keeps throwing it up. I am unsure if it is her dry food or wet food that is causing it, but I figured by switching one we might find the culprit.

I am looking for a good all stages cat food that is grain free. I read reviews on this site and elsewhere, but wasn't really sure where to go from there. Any suggestions?

Boy, the sky is the limit as far as food goes.  It's almost easier if you throw out a couple of foods and ask our opinion.  Maybe provide links to the foods, or else list the ingredients, including the guaranteed analysis.

BTW, how old is the kitten?  That might make a difference too.  And do you have a thread over in the health forum about the throwing up?  It might be totally unrelated to the food.

The kitten is four months old. I looked at a lot of foods, was considering Taste of the Wild, but I was somewhat worried about the reviews. I didn't know what else would work as an all stages food.

I plan to ask my vet about the throwing up when we take her to the vet in a few days for her rabies shot. She doesn't seem sick, just sometimes pukes after she eats.

Is is RIGHT after she eats?  Could she be eating too fast...that kind of throw up?  Or too much?  So it isn't often, just once in awhile.

BTW, if you google something, you will find good and bad about every food out there!  (at least, that's been MY experience).  I'm guessing even here on TCS some people will love a food, and others will hate it

I think it could be something like that for sure. It only happened three times and she does eat really fast. It isn't usually right after she eats, but pretty soon after. I was worried about the food though since my other cat puked once to. Neither of them have thrown up in over a week though.

Well, I think if you want to switch, Taste of the Wild gets great reviews (more often than not), or Orijin Cat & Kitten is probably good too.  If you switch though, I would do it slowly by mixing the new food in with the old, and slowly increasing the amount of the new food.

IMO Taste of the Wild isn't very good quality food, just look at the ingredients the first thing is "chicken meal.". Orijen is significantly better in terms of quality If you can afford it buy it. But make sure to switch your cat slowly because its rich and can cause digestion issues.

That was my main concern when looking at it. The food that I have now lists actual meat as the first ingredient. I would like to find that, but also within the same price range. Orejin is very expensive.

As with many ingredients, chicken meal is either good or bad, depending on what and where you are reading it.  Per THIS thread, chicken meal is actually better than chicken....offers more protein:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/222891/chicken-meal-as-an-ingredient

And besides that, Orijin Cat and Kitten has Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Herring Meal AND Salmon Meal all listed in their ingredients. I just quickly checked a couple other brands and they, too, have Chicken Meal and Turkey Meal, so I think it must be pretty common in dry food.

I didn't say it was "bad" i said that I don't like that its the first meat source. Again, this is my opinion and in terms of quality I'd rather feed whole meats that aren't super processed as the first protein source. Chicken meal is a lower quality protein source than just chicken, or turkey, or whatever else.

I like having just the chicken or whatever protein source as the first ingredient rather than chicken meal. I would agree. I was on chewy and found something called Nutrisca. And thoughts on that one?

Nutrisca looks like a good food, and it IS All Stages, vs the Purrfect Bistro which you are currently feeding.

I think I may buy the Nutrisca. The price isn't bad. I have been mixing the purrfect bistro half kitten food half adult food, which I worry about.

I may buy some Orjin treats to try. I've been giving Temptations treats, but I know that they are junk.  The kitten doesn't get them at all, I'm giving her something that is better quality since she'll eat it. My adult cat won't have any of the higher quality treats, so he gets three temptations treats a day max for after teeth brushing and nail clipping.
