Hi my cat Jackson is 2 years old and he is quite a small cat but not skinny but is getting a little chubby,

my Dad used to feed him ham or meat from the butcher every night with his bowl full of biscuits and a pouch of cat food in the morning. He only eats half of the cat food in the morning but eats all the food at night and eats most biscuits through out the day.

I changed his food to half a 75g tin at night and the other half in the morning with biscuits he can eat throughout the day. Is that too much or too less???

There really isn't a simple answer to that. The quality of the food you're feeding him, the calories the food has, how active he is, his metabolism all matter in figuring out the proper amount.

In short, low quality food (found in grocery stores/supermarkets) has poor ingredients and it is low in protein and high in carbs, which you do not want. I used to think that it is the cheapest, but I have found online shops that sell great quality pet food at great prices - in bulk.

So I would say that at first you should check the food you're feeding - quality and portion recommendations (usually these recommendations err on the more side). Then figure out how many calories he's supposed to eat - that is about 20 calories per pound of ideal weight.  So if he should be 13 pounds, then he should be eating 260 calories/day. But then again, as with human nutrition, not all calories are equal - with a low quality food he will be hungry but still gaining weight. With a better/high quality food he will feel satisfied with less.
