Hi all,
I thought I would sign up as my cat is pregnant with her first and only litter of kittens. She is very near the end and from my calculation was 9 weeks on Friday, she still eating loads and very sleepy.
Any ideas when she may go in to labour?
Thanks in advance

If your calculations are correct she should go into labor quite soon, but there is no real way for us to give you a specific time or day.  Just keep an eye on her for now :)

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

Good luck! I also hope you will consider getting her spayed once this is over.  An article about why this i s a good idea can be found here if you are interested: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/spay-and-neuter-your-cats

Signs of nearing labor are 'dropping' She will look slimmer, her stomach will feel harder and you will see the kittens move less as they move into position to be born.

Losing the mucus plug, not everyone see this - the cats may clean it up before you get the chance.

Water breaking, may be a leak.could be a gush.

All of these happen 24-48 hours before birth.

Other things to look for restlessness, very uncomfortable and wanting lots of attention.  She may want you there while she is birthing the kittens.

things to have on hand BEFORE she gives birth:  KMR (Kitten milk replacer) available at pet stores and walmart.  Pet Ag powdered form is good.  Avoid Hartz and seargents brands.

small 1-2 ml/cc needleless syringe

scale that weighs in grams or 1/10 of an ounce

pedialyte, unflavored, baby kind is good

heating pad, hot water bottle or some other heating source

Blunt scissors and dental floss.

You may not need any of these items (except the scale) but if you do need them and don't have them available it can be very stressful.
