Good morning.

I've just realised it's Susy Siren's 5th Birthday today. Happy Birthday Susy!

(She looks like she's all partied out.)

Today's question; What is your favourite way to keep cool in the hot weather?

It's about 30C here today and even with all the windows open it's still hot. I like sitting with my feet in a bowl of cold water. You have to lower them in slowly but once you're submerged up to the ankles it feels soooo good.

And do you know what is the perfect size and depth to soak your feet in? One of the kitties uncovered litter boxes!

I hope you're using a clean, unused litter box

I just like to sit in an air conditioned room to keep cool. If it's not terribly humid, then I sit outside in the shade.

Happy Birthday Susy Siren!!!! [emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]128077[/emoji][emoji]128077[/emoji]

My favorite way to stay cool is air conditioning...but I've heard that mixing mint with a little rubbing alcohol and water in a sprayer and spraying it on your pulse points is a good way to stay cool.

Why don't you have a/c, Norachan? Does it not get hot there too often?

I feel for you...lots of showers might help. Love the kitty pan solution, but personally I'd be drinking a daquari too.

And now I want to dash away to Happys thread, it's been awhile, hope she's been doing well?

Stay cool, Norachan!!!![emoji]10052[/emoji]️[emoji]10052[/emoji]️[emoji]10052[/emoji]️[emoji]10052[/emoji]️[emoji]10052[/emoji]️[emoji]10052[/emoji]️[emoji]10052[/emoji]️[emoji]10052[/emoji]️

Happy Birthday Susie Siren  This has been so far a very mild summer, the third one in a row.  I don't do well with heat so I tend to stay in with the air conditioning when it is really hot and humid.  We have only had a few days like that this summer though.  There were actually about two weeks here recently when I didn't run the air conditioning, just had the windows open and fans running.

I grew up in south Texas, so I have a few methods for keeping cool.

1. Take a cold shower in the heat of the day and don't dry off. I put on a shirt if I have to, but let the water evaporate - it's very cooling. If I have to get dressed I at least leave my hair wet (just finger style it as it dries) and that helps a lot, too.

2. Keep my ankles and wrists free - no bracelets or socks. I don't know why but covering these areas makes it hotter. I usually don't wear any jewelry if it's really hot.

3. I wear loose clothing in linen and cotton, but mostly linen in light colors. Same thing with bedding, linen is very cooling. Ditch the polyester, nylon, and blended fabrics until the Fall.

4. Wear sandals in leather or cloth. Rubber flip-flops are okay, but no plastic or vinyl shoes, no socks (see #2).

5. This one might be just me, but I have to wear deodorant that does not have an antiperspirant in it. I don't sweat much as it is (a real problem in the heat) and noticed that I get really miserable if I'm wearing an antiperspirant. If I'm also wearing full makeup on my face that is a real recipe for overheating.

6. I carry around an insulated bag that looks like a purse that has a little icepack and a couple of chilled water bottles in it.

7. Wear sunglasses outside. For some reason it makes things seem cooler.

8. If you don't have AC, you gotta have fans, ceiling fans preferably.

We get only a few weeks of hot weather here, so most businesses and homes do not have AC.

BTW Happy Birthday to your sweet kitty!

...with the cats...
happy 5th birthday to your Suzy Siren!

i'm with @Columbine, warm/hot weather is the only time i don't feel very cold or chilled. heck, even having the fan blowing on me or the ac on (and not directly blowing on me) can make me feel chilled or cold during the hottest times of the year.

Of course! I have more litter boxes than I need, so I keep one for my pedicures.

We're pretty high up in the mountains so it never gets that far above 30C. I now that's not hot for some people, but if you grew up in a cold, damp corner of England and never saw the sun until you were in your 20's it's a bit of shock to the system.

As a fellow Brit I sympathise.

Happy birthday to Suzy Siren and congratulations to your mum.

I'm with LaRussa on this. Just air conditioning.

Along the lines of what SwampWitch said about keeping her wrists bare - there are veins just under the skin on the inside of your wrist. Run cold water over them, take an ice cube and slide it over your wrist - very cooling.

And when winter does come around again, reverse things by knitting / crocheting wrist warmers to keep the same area covered.

Late to the birthday party for Susie Siren, but I hope your birthday was wonderful, little girl!

We have an in-ground pool. On Sunday, when I was dying up in the garden (I swear the sweat was dripping from my face onto the ground), I walked down to the house to get Rick and I each a cold drink. I walked by the pool, stopped, looked at the water--just beautiful water, started to walk to the gate, stopped, said, "Oh why not?!" took my sneakers and socks off, removed my Fitbit, and jumped in....clothes, and all. Best I felt all day! Rick heard the splash and he knew right away what I had done. It wasn't long til he showed up and.....splash! there he was! We got back out and headed back up to the garden, squishing all the way. And it was worth every squish.

And that's how we keep cool in the summer.

There are times, too, when I like to sit outside by the pool with my feet in the water. It feels so good.
