Hello ,  there is really no right answer to that question ..  I believe the best food for a  cat is what he/she likes and thrives on .  That is going to be different for all cats ..

Of  course I am happy to give you some suggestions ..  For canned food Fancy Feast makes a kitten formula  which is good .  Any of the FF Classic varieties would be good too ..   Natures Variety , Blue Buffalo , Tiki Cat , Weruva  , Friskies Pate , Hound & Gatos  . Just to name a few ..

For dry  there is Blue Buffalo , Natures Variety , Orijen , Acana  , Authority , ..

Just try a few brands of wet to see what your kitty likes best . It is ok to rotate different brands for variety ..

The best brand if the one your cat will eat and you can afford
There isn't one specific commercial brand that is the ultimate best one out there that every cat should be on.

These links may help you choose a brand:

If your cat likes Simply Nourish, then you can feed that. I'm not familiar with that brand.

Generally most people recommend grain-free foods. There are good fairly inexpensive brands out there that you can find at chain pet stores like Petco and PetSmart: Wellness, By Nature, Blue Buffalo, etc.

If your budget can swing it, there are many good high end premium brands to feed: Nature's Variety Instinct, Weruva, Tiki Cat, etc. Some of these brands are available in both canned and dry while others are only canned or pouched. Here is a list outside of TCS that lists more of the high end brands: http://www.catster.com/forums/Food_and_Nutrition/thread/774137 High end foods tend to be sold only at independent pet stores as well as online.

I feed wet, dry, and raw. For dry i feed Orijen cat & kitten as well as Ziwipeak air dried venison and fish. For wet my one eats FF chicken (stubborn Bengal), most poultry varieties of weruva and tiki cat as well as some wellness pate.

I agree with the other people above: The best brand is whatever your sweet fur baby will eat and you can afford to feed!

It is totally okay to mix brands and flavors! But, make sure to transition slowly, mixing at first, because some younger kittens (and even older) can have sensitive tummies!

My kitten currently LOVES Blue Buffalo. He eats the dry "Healthy Growth" chicken formula and the wet "Basics" turkey and potato!

But, many other brands such as Natural Balance, Hills, Purina, Nutro, Etc. are all fine and balanced nutrition!

Any food you pick should say "AAFCO approved" on the label! If it says that, it means it was deemed a balanced diet! <3
