I can't believe it, first time in 2 weeks she has not shown up! Almost like she knows. Had trouble setting trap after I had it tied open for a week. I doubt she will show tonight, I will take trap down when sun sets. Ugh
Give her time.  It's a nice day today so maybe she is running a bit later.  Keep it up until it's dark.  Does she ever come in the morning?  You could try again then.

I see you live in Ohio.  I am in the Columbus area.  Here we have a low cost spay/neuter clinic that accepts ferals in a trap without an appointment.  It really helps to take the pressure off.  You might call around and see if there are any such clinics in your area.  Many of the low cost clinics won't turn you away.

yes she was here this am I will try tomorrow am. My job has wierd hours, I will schedule another appointment if I must. I just don't want kittens. We have one of those clinics, it is not close so it is easier to schedule at my vet and get to work on time.

I hope she shows up tomorrow morning.  If not keep trying and keep feeding her in the trap.  You will get her I just know you will.  You are doing a great thing to help her in her life!!

Just put a little of something very tempting in there. As soon as she starts eating she will spring the trap. Then you can lift it up, let the food fall out and cover it. One little mouthfull will be OK They just don't want the cat to have a full stomach.

They say no food after midnight, is it safe to bait trap in morning with food.
Yes - because you will only be putting a small amount of an enticing - smelly - yummy something to get her into the trap and hopefully she will be hungry enough to go right in as I suspect she will. Not to worry if she get a little bit of food. Most importantly is getting her trapped and spayed. We never really worry too much about the food in the tummy issue and always bait with a small amount of sardines, tuna and drizzle the juice leading into the trap.

I am sorry she didn't show up. argh. I know that feeling in your stomach - that nervous HUGE pit. Keep trying. All TNR vets understand that there is never a 100% guarantee that the caretaker will be successful in trapping the cat on spay/neuter appt. day. In fact, most are very, very flexible and as long as you are already on the "list" - then they can usually fit you in on any day. Hang in there!!! Soon, you will have your capture. ;) :vibes::vibes: :cross: :vibes:

Keep feeding her in the unset trap.  So glad you found a place that will take them without an appointment.  It makes it so much easier.  The drive will be a bit further and be prepared it will be crowded and you may have to wait.  I usually try to keep the cat in the car while I go inside to fill out the paper work.  Yet since it is summer and so warm, it may not be possible.  Be sure to keep the trap covered with a light weight sheet the entire time, even when you go into the clinic.  The place I go is always mobbed and there are often dogs there too.  It's much less stress on the cat if you it can remain in the car until they are ready for it.  Maybe someone can go with you to sit in the car if it is too warm to just leave the windows open.

Best of luck next Tuesday pm.

:alright: I know.... it is part of doing TNR and cannot be helped - the spay/aborts - and really it is for the best. It is always a bittersweet blessing if the preggie female is trapped before she gives birth outside adding even more feral cats in the wild trying to survive all on their own - it is an awful existence and such a constant challenge to survive. We have to think of it this way IF she were to be pregnant. There are already WAY TOO many kittens in the shelter needing homes and these kittens will take up more spots and room at the shelters, they would need socializing as well being from a feral mom while she is nursing them. It is a whole other issues on top of just getting her spayed and released. When we trap colonies - we never know how many are pregnant or how far along they are. IF they are just about and close to being due - then we try to find an experienced feral foster to take her (momma) and babies on. SO don't worry, if she were to be really far along, the vet would let you know. I bet she is not though - hoping anyway. Continuing vibes for your successful capture of her. :vibes::vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

my dad said she showed up at 9 am this morning. If she had kittens somewhere would her milk dry up when spade?

I read that there is a big chance she would dry up and I was so worried mine had a second litter too young to be weaned stashed somewhere. But my kitty was spayed weeks ago and still nurses her kittens. So I guess it depends on the cat.

No, I had Susy spayed when her kittens were 12 weeks old and she continued to feed them until they were about 5 months old. They were in my house by that time, so getting fed daily, but she's let them nurse when they all settled down for a nap together.

Same with a  lot of the feral mothers I TNR'd. I'd try to wait until the kittens were at least 10 weeks before I had them spayed, but even though it took me a couple of extra weeks after the spay to find and catch the kittens, the mothers had no trouble feeding them.

Your vet should be able to tell if she is nursing or not. If she is, ask them to do a flank spay rather than a belly spay so she can still nurse without being uncomfortable.

Hope you're able to trap her soon. I know how nerve racking this is. I'm always amazed that I'm able to trap any cats at al because my heart pounds so hard I'm sure they're able to hear it. Once it's over she'll have a much better life and you won't have to worry about her so much.

:yeah: What Norachan said!! :lol3: She will still be able to nurse her kittens if she has them though it will be quite uncomfortable after her spay but they still are able to do so and have milk. I think that if she has kittens then she would be bringing them around unless they are just born. They usually begin to bring them around their food source when they are fairly young. MEGA MEGA vibes for this week's capture to go smoothly and all of this kitten worry is for naught. :cross: :vibes::vibes: :vibes:

I have her going all the way to back of cage to eat now. She associates cage with food. My screwy work hours make the catch difficult. When I work late I get home at 730 and she is already gone. In morning she comes at 9 too late to drop off between 8 and 830. I hope I can catch her at 730 Tuesday night to drop off Wednesday at 8 am, I have Wednesday off so I can pick her up at 4. If not I have Friday apt with my vet that was scheduled, if none of this works I will have to take some vacation time. [emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]128062[/emoji][emoji]10084[/emoji]️

:lol3: on the vacation comment.... yes - you certainly will need some sort of respite after this. ;)

Most of the vet's don't even start surgeries till after 10:00 a.m. and some later. Especially the TNR vets. I have had a feral cat neutered at 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon by the time the vet got to him!! Might you check with them and explain the timing of her a.m. arrival? You can probably easily still drop her off after you trap her mid morning. :cross: :vibes::vibes:

I agree with Feralvr about the timing, and think it is a good idea to call the vet and clinic to see how late you can drop off the cat. Obviously not all cats are being spayed/neutered simultaneously; yet it seems the pick up time remains the same :) The biggest issue time wise is: is there enough time for the anesthesia to wear off and for the cat to seem at least somewhat aware of his/her surroundings, before the clinic/vet practice closes.
Good luck!
