Hi, my cat, Smokey, is recovering from kidney failure after ingesting something toxic and I was wondering how to help control fleas without adding additional toxins to his blood stream.

I've heard good things regarding apple cider vinegar in regards to flea control.

Using Diatomaceous Earth might work well for you, but I would definitely check with your Vet first on anything you use with a kidney cat.   I'm guessing Smokey goes outside?  If so, you probably are going to need something like Advantage II because I think pretty much anything holistic is just going to kill the fleas on him and not the eggs, but again, I would just ask your Vet.

Does your cat go outside?  Freely, or in an enclosure?

Where do you live?  Street addy and number!! No. Just kidding, what part of the country are you in?

If kitty is an indoor cat, for sure you can use safe methods!!

I'm in south florida and haven't used a commercial pesticide on my cats for over 10 years, and they go out into an enclosure. But, it is work... but, IMO, much better than the risks associated with Advantage and gang.

Right now, I'm evaluating a homeopathic remedy, and we have not seen a flea for over 3 months even though I discontinued my old regimen and they still go outside.
