We used to have "Daily threads" where people would pop in and talk about how their day was going and little things that were going on in their life that weren't worth starting a whole thread for. They were really popular, then interest waned. Since the "babbling thread" was so popular, we are going to give a weekly thread a whirl and see if it's a hit or not.

So, talk away, what's going on with you this week?

Went to the Detroit area and visited family. Now it's time to make up to my cats for leaving them for a couple of days. They're pretty needy for the first few days we get home.

Delighted to see a babbling thread spin-off.
I figured I was going to go into withdrawal!

I hope you had a great time with family.  Wesley, my rainbow cat, used to ignore me for several hours after I got home from a few days away.  The other cat would be all lovey dovey but Wesley would jump off my lap if I tried to snuggle him and walk into the next room.

Had a wonderful time. Thank you. My cats pretty much do the same thing. Some are all lovey dovey and some turn their backs on me. Such little stinkers.

This week I learned that my kitten actually has 23 toes instead of 22. I didn't realize that one of her back paws had more than the other.

cool! so she's actually a polydactyl cat! also referred to as a 'hemingway' cat. i actually took the tour of Hemingway House in Key West, Florida. there, the descendants of the original hemingway cats live their lives being cared for.

I've heard about the Hemingway cats and seen photos in a magazine article years ago. What a great life they lead!

Her extra toes are very adorable. She even uses her thumbs to grab onto the edges of things so that she can climb more like a chameleon.

yes, they do live a great life!

taking the tour of the Hemingway house, you see the cats here and there -- doing normal cat things.

i read that not all the cats there are polydactyl, but all of them have that gene in them -- so their offspring stand a good chance of being polydactyl.

i can understand that! i've always been attracted to polydactyl cats, though i've never had one. oh, how interesting that your girl uses her thumbs when climbing. very smart girl!

i've also always been attracted to orange or ginger cats, though i've never had one either.

so i guess having a polydactyl orange cat would be like winning the lottery for me! well, i feel like i've won already with my snick and jaspurr.

A polydactyl ginger tabby would be pretty wonderful.  I feel disloyal thinking that - Chula and Paul keep me pretty busy!

i could see myself planning to adopt and looking for a polydactyl orange cat, then coming home with a completely different colored and not polydactyl cat. i know that when i'd go see/meet cats to potentially adopt, the cat(s) would already know who was meant for me.

oh, snick and jaspurr keep me busy enough too. and i love spending time with them and watching them enjoy themselves, and cuddling with them...

i'm hoping that i'll feel rested enough and find the time tomorrow to continue reading my book. it's been probably almost 3 weeks since i last had time and the energy to read that book. it's a book of short stories, and i had finished one of the short stories, so i can easily pick up where i left off.

I actually went to the shelter one time looking for a gray cat or tabby and came home with a ginger tabby. I'd never considered one before but he picked me out and I realized it was meant to be.

I'm also reading a book of short stories - The Year's Best Science Fiction for 2014. Short stories are great. I never cheat and look at the end![emoji]128512[/emoji]

yes! they know even if we don't, that we're the person for them. that's the way it was with my mickey, he knew right away that i was his person even though it took me a little longer to realize it. mickey was (and continues to be) the great love of my life.

my book of short stories is Riding the Mainspring: A Collection of Steampunk Short Stories by Andrew Knighton. really great short stories.

I have the polydactyl and the orange, but not in the same cat.
I know what you mean about looking for one kind of cat and finding another. When we were looking for Carrot we wanted a cat that was less than a year old. Well he was almost three, but stole our hearts.

I have never had one but I think polydactyl cats are so cute.  I think they look like they have a catcher's mitt on each of their front paws.

Two years ago in May ihad to send my Lotto to rainbow bridge. He was nearly 20 and I was broken hearted. I got very ill and ended up in hospital for a week and I was only let home because I nagged and pleaded. My hemoglobin was 7 and I was very weak. I share my apartment with my ex, different bedrooms. He looked after me and when I said I wanted another cat he said when I'm stronger. A few weeks later my vet phoned and said she had an 8 month siamese who had been dumped did i want him. What a question. So I brought him home and he immediately attached himself to my ex!!!! In august of the same year my daughter phoned me and asked if I wanted a 2 month old black and white street cat. Of course. I got him that evening. He spent some time in my bedroom and when I introduced them it went very well. So well in fact that where whisky went blighty followed. My ex now has my two cats who ignore me until it's treat time. They know who feeds them and that's all I'm needed for. What do I do?
