Aw that poor little guy getting all of these dips and baths!! BUT - certainly is sounds as if he knows you are helping him and he seems quite good with the whole process. What a good little guy.

I never bathed my RW kittens - just the dips BUT they were on an oral too so a different protocol than yours. IF you bathe on the same day as a dip falls - then do the bath first. Let him completely dry all the way - you can gently towel rub him or even use a hair dryer on very low and warm - not hot air. Then do the dip later. The dip must not be toweled off and he must air dry. Most kittens/cats will not lick themselves and if they are already shaved, then the dry time is really short anyway. If he were my kitten, I would shave him down completely again - it will help with drying and healing AND then you can see all of the lesions very clearly. OH I HOPE and PRAY this all clears up very, very soon. :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: :rub: :hugs: Hang in there - your doing a GREAT job. :bigthumb:

I don't have anything useful to add, but still hoping for these poor babies to get well soon - you're doing a great job with them

Thank you guys so much. I will make sure to not towel him off next time. I didn't towel him to dry him off but more like held him in his towel to keep him warm since we did this outside the house. It's pretty humid and hot here in Lahore so I think I'll skip it next time.

Also, I am freaking out right now. I think my 13-year-old brother may have gotten RW! Oh god, it's giving me so much anxiety and I feel so guilty. Is this 110% RW?

I feel so awful and guilty. Taking him to the doctor today. =(

This is so upsetting and depressing. ='( Maybe I'm overreacting because it's not a fatal disease (not even sure it's ringworm yet) but I hate to see this affecting my family, especially my baby brother. Will he need antibiotics or an ointment will most likely clear it up? Won't be able to go to the doctors for a few hours or until tomorrow.

It looks like RW to me. I have had it before and it clears right up with an over the counter med that is ment for it.   :)

It looks like RW to me too. It's really no big deal. I've had a similar fungal infection, and it cleared right up with medicated cream. Catching it early (which you have) is the key to successful, quick treatment. Don't feel bad :hugs: It's just one of those things.

Sigh.

Since we are moving into the guesthouse now I have moved Raffaello into a small room. I cleaned it out and wiped down walls/tiles with a bleach solution and moved him in. My only concern (aside from him getting stressed and lonely) is that it's a small room, about 5 x 7 feet. I've installed an exhaust fan to keep odors out but otherwise it's windowless (the exhaust leads to the ceiling). Will he be okay in here until he's cleared up? I noticed his bald patch on his side is growing in very fine hair! YAY! But I'm so shaken by my brother getting this so I think keeping him in one room is key at this point. We are in the process of doing a deep clean of the house at the moment. Have washed the floors (removed all rugs a few weeks ago) and now just wiping down everything with bleach water.

Poor thing, he's probably really confused right now. =(

Yes it looks like classic RW in a human.  I've had it.  It can usually be well controlled.  Lamosil cream has the same ingredient in Terbinafine, the oral med that you can give to cats.  What i've done for myself is I apply the cream and then cover it with a bandaid so that the lesion is kept saturated with the cream and it clears up fast.  One risk, sun exposure to the lesion has been known to cause scarring so make sure its covered in some way if your brother gets a lot of sun exposure, and given where you live i suspect he does.

Oh dear - I am sorry that your little brother has a spot now! I also had it once and cleared it up easily with Lamosil too. That was before I knew about Colloidal Silver! I wish you could get some CS as it would work on humans and on the kitten. Don't worry !!!!! It is self limiting and such a nightmare to deal with though. :alright:

Rafaello will be alright in that room as long as you spend mega amounts of time with him and fill the room with his favorite things - maybe a cat tree or something he can climb up on, toys, bed, and a little music will be helpful. Do you have Rescue Remedy Or Feliway I don't know if you can get these things in your area though. The rescue remedy drops are applies to the back of his ears - and even a couple of drops in his mouth. It is completely safe and stats show it really, really works. It works for humans too. ;) Hang in there - I know this is just awful for all of you and for your kitten - but soon this will all be behind you. Good to hear that hair is growing back on a spot on Rafaello. :vibes:

Updates!

Turns out, my mom and my cousin were also affected. So us four (including my brother) all went to the doctor who gave us Lamisil. =(

And here is how Raffaello is looking now. Maybe I'm hallucinating but I think he looks a lot better! I've only done one Lyme sulfur dip yet on Sunday so I'm going to do it again on Sunday. Thought I'd start once a week the first week and then build to twice. His bald spot is slightly growing in which I take to be a good sign but his overall appearance is still poor. Health wise he's very active because today we let him out in the backyard and he ran all over all excited and happy. Made my heart soar. :D

He may be better!  Maybe you can take a shot that compares his welts over his body to the first shots?

He does look a bit better to me!!! AWWWW - He is SOOOOOO cute !!!!! I enlarged the photo and even his nose is not as red and inflamed looking. OH I HOPE SO !!!! I, also, would like to see some body shots though, if possible. That way we can really compare to the original pictures. I am very sorry about your family getting RW but it will heal, I promise. Soon, you will all be on the mend. :cross: :vibes:

I will try taking photos but his body lesion on the side which had turned into a bold spot is still healing but with very fine hair starting to grow in! It's weird because he grew worse on his body yet I remember about 2 months ago he had really bad thinning on the insides of his hind legs that looked awful when he walked. THOSE have completely grown in so I am wondering whether he got better but then got reinfected by a spore in the environment?

I did his 2nd dip yesterday and we let him in the yard to play and dry off after. I noticed he was licking himself clean, is that not dangerous?

I'm not sure if its dangerous or not but during the drying stage you could put a cone on him if you had one.

You know. It almost sounds as if he was already to the point of curing himself of the RW as it is self-limiting especially if the immune system kicks in BUT no matter anyhow because at least you are seeing hair growing back. A very good sign indeed.

Again, if you shave him a second time, sadly because he has such a lovely coat, then he will air dry very, very quickly and then you won't have to worry about him licking himself. I found this http://www.drugs.com/vet/lime-sulfur-dip.html and it says not to allow the pet to lick himself until the Lyme Dip has dried so you may want to get that e-collar that Stephen suggests if you don't want to shave again.

SO glad to hear he is doing better. PHEW !!!!

No good news to report, guys. =( He is still the same but I blame myself because I had to travel and couldnt keep up with his shampoos and dips. I gave him his first dip in about 2 weeks yesterday and will bathe him tomorrow.

I've noticed his paws are looking really dry and flaky. Like really brittle looking. What could be the cause of that?

And the affected areas have darkened making him look so dirty. =( Anyone know what that could be? It's almost like that area is moist and attracts dust and dirt? Not sure.

My mom's RW has grown considerably to about 3" and she is so grossed out and in a panic. =( She's on oral meds and Lamisil ointment so hopefully it goes away soon. Sigh.

OH NO. I am sooooo sad to hear of this news. Not good. :shame: Poor Rafaello. I think more aggressive treatment is needed, really I do, at this point. Take him back to the vet. He really may need oral medication at this point. The dips need to be a few times per week to start, I think. Not every two weeks, that will do nothing to help. I am also sorry about your mom's RW problem too. I will hope and pray that it resolves quickly for her. :cross:

I know this sounds far fetched, but have you tried virgin coconut oil? I have heard it heal lots of things since it is antibacterial, fungal, parasites, etc., though I'm not sure about ringworm specifically. Since it is natural, it might be worth a go. It can be used internally and externally. Your poor little kitty. He looks so sad (but so sweet!).
