I have a three year old (in tact) male tabby.  I travel a lot for work, but in the last few months he has started urinating either in front of me or on me any chance that he gets.  Yes, he has been to the vet, no there is nothing medically wrong with him.  He's even done it 30 seconds after changing his litter.

He sleeps next to me on his own pillow, last night at 4 am, he stood up and urinated all over his pillow, the bed and me.  When I brush my teeth he jumps up in the sink in front of me and urinates. If I leave him in the bedroom he will urinate in the spot where I sleep, but after I clean it and replace the sheets he will go to sleep in that exact place. I love the cat dearly, this is all becoming too much.  I have to restrict the rooms he's allowed in now just to keep things under control, and even then mopping the floor in my room twice a day and washing the bed linens twice a day is geting crazy.

And it's definitely urinating, not spraying.  He sprays occasionally but no where near the amount he urinates.

Obviously this is a behavioral problem, but why?  And how do I fix it?  Thank you!

The number one thing to do is to neuter your cat.

An unfixed male is an unhappy cat... An anxious cat, a territorial cat who pees every were, a cat who s a much higher escape risk and then being the "new guy" on the block, more likely coming home beaten and torn up by the other Tom Cats.

There really is no reason to keep an unfixed male. (Nor female)  It is not fair to them and not to you. As soon as he senses cats outside he will pee. Pee to mark his territory to the other male cats, and pee to demonstrate his space whenever a female cat is around...

Having an intact male cat is recipe for disaster. Why would anybody do that??

Get your boy neutered as soon as possible, and then wait for his behavior to change. The older he is when the neutering takes place, the longer you will have to wait for the behavior to change.  So. How 'bout doing it next week?????  You will truly do your cat a favor... You really will.

Thank you for the information!  The only other cat I've had was a female and she was the best animal ever.  Making his appointment is first on my to do list tomorrow.

I live in a rural area where everyone has dogs, we don't see cats around here too often.  I'm just wondering why he's making it a point to pee in front of, on or next to me every chance he gets.  Unless he's being territorial with ME?
