Six year old Holly was dx in January with pancreatitis, colitis and gastritis. She was obviously very sick. The dr gave her an antinausea and rehydrated her. I gave her a little canned food someone gave me when we got home. Not brands I normally would give but she ate it with no problems. I have her on mostly Fancy Feast classic and occasionally one of FF with gravy. No problems. I've had vets strongly suggest the higher priced canned foods. My question is has anyone whose had their cat dx with these issues ever suspected the vet was in cahoots with these high priced companies? As in kickbacks. I know a lot of cats are on poor diets with too much dry food but it seems odd to me that there are SO many dx with these specific issues and Holly seems tolerant of wheat in 9lives canned. Even people with colitis often can't tolerate wheat.

a lot of vet's offices have food for sale in their lobbies like Science Diet or Royal Canin. My vet has Science Diet. I've been going to her for my dog and now the cats for over 10 years. She has never tried to sway me towards SD. It all depends on the vet. I'm sure they have a relationship with these companies in some way but I would think that it's like anything else they sell. They buy it from the manufacturer or a wholesaler and then resell it at their own price. They might get a better deal from SD or RC or whoever for using promotional things in the lobby like pamphlets and such but I'm not sure.

Most traditional vets are not experts in feline nutrition. They will tell you high protein/low carb and not go much further than that. If you have a cat that has special dietary needs, it might be better to seek one out who ONLY deals with felines if only for a second opinion about your cat's needs.

I've had her to more than one. Some wonder why I am concerned about wheat. Others think I should switch to pricey stuff.
