I have been using this no-name dishwashing liquid soap lemon scent one since the day i got my kitten and he doesn't seem to dislike it.

Should i continue using it or do i need to buy Dawn?

I never thought to consider the brand of dish soap I use for their dishes...

You don't need any particlar brand, IMO. Just use one that is unscented and doesn't contain lotion. Cats have super sensitive noses and may stop using the litter box if you wash it with something scented. Dishwash soap that has lotion may leave residue on the bowls which your cat will likely ingest. It would likley be a miniscule amount of lotion reisude but I still would not use it.

I read Pam Johnson-Bennett's book and she advises using diluted bleach to wash the litterbox and rinse it thoroughly. I haven't yet tried that though!

But I don't think the brand matters as long as you rinse really well.

Huh, I never thought about this. I usually use a bit of all purpose cleaner (BioKleen or Mrs Meyers) with a dollop of bleach in hot water to clean litter boxes, followed by a good rinse. For the dishes, I usually do a quick pre-wash with soapy water (Seventh Generation/Mrs. Meyers/Dishmate) and run through the dishwasher (cascade detergent pod). They've not had issues eating out of their bowls or using their boxes, so I guess it's okay?

The reason you see Dawn referenced so frequently is because its a great, safe soap to bathe young kittens with if they have fleas. The brand of soap you use for washing up etc really doesn't matter....unless your cat has an allergy to it or something

I just use a little bit of bleach and some water to clean the litter boxes, and then rinse thoroughly, then I set them in the sun to dry.  Never had any problems at all with them hopping right in and using them afterwards.  (I have a couple spare litter boxes that I use while the others are sitting in the sun drying)

I wash cat bowls with a no name detergent by hand or with Cascade by dishwasher. For litter boxes, I clean with a diluted bleach solution and then rinse with Nature's Miracle and rinse in water. I've never had a problem with either one.

I just use anti-bacterial soap and hot water for mine.
