I have been using Advantage ll for dogs on my cats for 4 years. This is based on their weight and it has always worked great. Recently I have noticed that it isn't working anymore. I found your website and decided to try Frontline ll for dogs on my cats. Its not working at all and I now have a flea infestation in my home :(  I do not want to fumigate my home until I find something that will work on my cats. Does anyone have any ideas of what i can try on them now. And how long is Frontline ll supposed to work on my cats? Monthly treatments?

it sounds like you need to buy a carpet spray that kills fleas and flea eggs, and spray all around your house, including beds, furniture, and floors. On the same day you should again treat your pets with Frontline or Advantage.

You may want to worm your pets again. If the fleas are that bad they may have worms.

I have been through a similar situation in the past, and a comprehensive treatment of house and pets will usually take care of the problem. You can repeat the entire exercise a week later if necessary.

I doubt that it is the product that is not working, but rather that the infestation that is out of hand.

:yeah: Agreed. Spot on treatments can only kill the fleas they come into contact with. The majority of the fleas will be in your carpets and furnishings.

Regular thorough vacuuming can really help - especially if you get flea collars, cut them up and stick them in your vacuum cleaner bags. Wash everything that can be washed too. Ultimately, though, you're going to have to fumigated to be sure of getting rid of every last one.

Also, if any of your pets go outside, you may want to treat your yard as well, or the fleas will continue to come back in on your animals. It can be a big job to combat an infestation, but once conquered it's easier to stay on top of it. Summer is the worst time for fleas too, as I'm sure you are aware.

Good luck!

I sprayed and have been vacuuming and its helped. Just bought this house and they had an indoor dog and cat. Although they tented the house and fumigated for termites, I'm not sure it did anything for fleas. My cats have never had a flea problem. Like I said before, I used Advantage for dogs on them and it always worked but lately it hasn't so I switched to Frontline. Used the .5cc like it said and not sure its working. I'm getting eaten alive bu fleas!  I imagine my next step is fumigation.

My next question is in regards to the flea meds. Is the Frontline the same as Advantage where it is applied once every 30 days?

My cats are indoor outdoor cats. I did treat my outdoor areas but not sure if its going to work. Very frustrated and upset that I'm going thru this. My yard is mostly dirt because we recently bought this home and took all the landscaping out and its still in the same shape...all dirt.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to battle these fleas. I would try the carpet spray again. I have found it to be highly effective. I believe that Frontline is a monthly product like Advantage is.

Frontline and Advantage are both used every 30 days. It's very important that there is a 30 day gap between either of them too - ie if you treated with frontline you must wait 30 days before using any other flea treatment.

You might need repeated house treatments to get the flea problem fully under control. Infestations are a nightmare, and it takes persistence and hard work to get on top of them. Hang in there. It can be done.
