My cat who is about 9 months old has always had a sensitive stomach. He doesn't vomit but has diarrhea awful. So we put him on Hill's I/d canned food. He can not handle even the dry food of the I/d. And while it works for the most part every now and then it still gives him soft stools. He has been to the vet and checked out and has no issues other than just the very sensitive tummy. Can any of you recommend a great food that has worked for you?

Welcome to the Cat Site! I'm sorry to hear your kitten is having trouble with her foods. My first suggestion would be to try feeding your kitten only grain-free foods: the Hills foods have wheat and corn that might be causing her problem. I also stay away from peas and potato and other carby vegetables that are used as fillers and thickeners in many foods.

As a bit of background, our cats, who we adopted as underfed teenage kittens, also have sensitive stomachs and our vet highly recommended feeding them only grain-free canned foods. (She likes to talk about meat and protein...) We took them off dry food and, by trial and error, found lots of canned and commercial raw foods that they like and that seem to work for their stomachs. We found that one cat can't eat potato (it makes her barf and get gassy). I also keep the cats' foods as low-carb as possible and don't feed them much fish. We avoid carrageenan, too, since it can be an irritant.

Some of the brands that have foods that fit all those criteria and that the cats like are Tiki, Weruva Cats in the Kitchen, and Nutro Natural Choice. They also loved Merrick's limited ingredient duck, which I just tried out on them. Just ask if you want to know which specific foods we feed! And good luck, it can take some time to figure these sensitivities out.

If after trying grain-free foods your cat still has sfot stool and a sensitive tummy, you can try a limited ingredient diet. Some cats have allergies to certain proteins or ingreidents in food. I posted a list of some brands of limited ingredient diets here: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/301848/sensitive-stomach-possible-causes-and-possible-foods

Some people have success with feeding sensitive tummy cats a raw or home cooked diet. That may be an option for you.
