The three 8 week old kittens I am fostering through a rescue have fleas. They have been in my home for 32 hours now and the kittens and my own pets received prevention right away when I noticed them at 20 hours after being in my home. I also applied flea powder on all of my carpets. The kittens have been confined to one room; after I noticed the fleas, they have been confined to a kennel on a tarp in the same room. All linens have been washed. One kitten slept on me, on a blanket, on the couch last night. My animals, who haven't interacted with them, don't have any signs of fleas. Should I be concerned about the fleas having spread through my home? Please put my mind at ease! Are there any additional steps I should take? Fleas are so gross, they make me so nervous. Thank you.

Do you treat your own animals monthly.  If so the fleas should die soon after contact. If you don't I suggest you treat them all and head off future problems.

I'm not so worried about my pets as much as I am my house. I understand that the bugs will die without a host, but I wanted to get a handle on the spread of them, whether I should be concerned if they spread outside the room or not. My cats are regularly treated with prevention, but I missed their July dose a couple weeks ago, so they received it today out of routine, so to speak. My ferret doesn't normally receive prevention because he doesn't travel and my vet doesn't recommend it, so I need to monitor him. He is kept upstairs so I think he will be fine.

The Cat Fleas article looked like it had info on killing fleas in the house.  I just skimmed it before attaching.

Thanks! I've already researched most of this and articles similar to those, I was posting on a forum hoping for some commentary or a narrative of a similar situation and what I should expect to do as the fleas die, assuming they're even in the carpet or throughout the house. Because the kittens are confined to one room, should I suspect they haven't gotten far? Questions like this aren't well addressed by generic articles I have resourced. I have no evidence to believe they've spread but the paranoia lingers. ):

Okay.  Sorry.  You may want to post in the health forum or search there for more answers.

If the kittens have been contained in one room and you have powdered your carpets and washed linens, and dosed everyone, I seriously doubt there are any further flea eggs in the kittens' room, nor would the eggs have traveled anywhere.

I hope this helps! :)
