Month old kittens have a weak meow?

We live on an acreage and have outdoor cats. Today one of the females brought four kittens that I would say are about a month old right beside where the adults eat (they're hiding under a dog house right now). This is the first time I've seen these kittens. They seem pretty healthy to me, except that one has a very slightly infected eye possibly. But, their cries sound very weak. Every meow that all of them make just doesn't sound right. Is it possible they're not getting enough milk from mom and that's why she moved them to the feeding area? I should note that the mom is very small. I have no idea how old she is since she is a stray that found her way to our yard one day, but we've had her for over a year now and she is still a very small adult (hasn't grown really since she got here.)

So yeah. Basically just wondering why their cries sound so weak while they seem pretty healthy otherwise. I can try feeding them wet canned food if I have to, but don't want to if I don't have to.

They are probably starving. Please feed those poor little kittens. Kittens begin to wean at around 4 weeks old when their baby teeth come in. They need more food than just milk now. Mama kitty brought them so they can eat food.

Kittens need to eat wet food and kitten chow several times a day to grow up healthy.

It's very nice of you to feed these stray cats. Is it possible for you to have mama kitty spayed before she gets pregnant again and has another litter? All of these pregnancies will be very hard on her and you will get overrun with cats.

Alright, I will try giving them some wet food! Hopefully they take it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes, we definitely want to get all of the cats spayed/neutered. We just have to get a cage, since most of them are wild and very skittish.

3/4 took the food no problem! After they were done hissing at me, that is. Lol! The fourth wasn't really figuring it out, but eventually took a tiny bit. I didn't give them a whole bunch since it's their first time eating this food, so I'll feed them some more tomorrow morning/afternoon.

Nice work.  You can mix it with KMR or add a little water so it's like a mush and a little easier for them to eat.

Terrific! :)

Maybe they will stop hissing when they realize you bring them food!

They will be hungry in the morning, and it won't take long before they all eat with gusto and look forward to what you bring. :)

The food I gave them is actually made for kittens, so it already was complete mush lol. I'm sure they will stop hissing within a couple of days :)

Cats outside dont meow as much as home cats.  Meowing in much a communication with humans...  But anyways, good the mom bringed them in already now (she shows thereby she does trusts you).  Both for the food, and also, now its much easier for you to socialize them.

The safest socializing is inside, of course.  But if you are persistent enough, you can surely socialize them outside too...  I mean, its better they become sociale, adoptable kittens, than if  you get four new semi-ferales...

And yes, showing them YOU are their friendly food source, hastens things a lot!
