I have tried both Denamarin and Liv a Plex Holistic. She hates them both. Probably hates the drops worse since thats 4 times a day. Minnie is 19.

My cat Muffin was diagnosed with high liver numbers early on. I tried the Denamarin and it made our lives miserable. He vomited and as you say it was an issue for us. Because he showed no symptoms, the vet and I decided it was not worth the effort as he didn't appear sick in any way. When I stopped the pill his appetite went back to normal and his vomiting stopped. Toward the end of his life, he was diagnosed with an abdominal mass found by x-ray. The options given were, love him and spoil him for whatever time he had left, do a biopsy which might or might not be definitive, exploratory surgery and be prepared to say goodbye then based on the findings. The decision was made for surgery. A tumor was found on the end of his liver lobe and removed. The was stitched on the inside and stapled on the outside and managed the surgery well. It was malignant, but he lived a good life for another year before his tumor came back. He was fourteen when we finally lost him.

I think you have to look at all the facts, especially the quality of life the cat has. I understand what you are faced with and I hope you can find a solution that works well for you and your cat. I can't imagine having a cat 19 years old. It is certainly a testimony to the loving home provided.

My Minnie is sick, she was throwing up bile. The pills did help and the drops, but she just absolutely hates taking them. I don't have enough money for surgery for her. Glad Muffin is better.

I'm so sorry Minnie's not doing well. Don't feel bad about surgery - to be honest, I wouldn't even consider putting a 19 year old through surgery - regardless of whether or not I could afford it. The focus now needs to be on quality of life, and enjoying every day you have with her.

I mix the drops with fish oil but she still hates them. I have a friend who's cat lived 26 years taking the drops, but his cat loved the fish oil. And 4 times a day seems like I am constantly waking her up for medicine so now she hides. I know 19 is old but she is otherwise happy and mobile. Her digestion is very good and drinks water. I wish I didn't have to torture her.

I don't have any experience with liver disease, but I know some meds can be injected at home. Cats who are resolute medication refusers can find that a much less stressful method. If this is something you feel you might be able to do, it's certainly worth a discussion with your vet.
