Did I do the right thing for my cat and her kittens?

My cat kitty had 4 healthy kittens 2 days ago, she was fine until the next day,she was panting like crazy and I first thought she was giving birth, she wasn't, I found out that her house(she's an outdoor cat but she had a sheld built for her) was getting way to hot and even the fan wouldn't help so I moved her into the garage which is almost as cool as the house. She is fine and she looks very comfortable but the babies feel a lot cooler, will they be OK? They are feeding and look comfortable but not has warm...

Do you know what the temperature is in the garage?  Will it get cooler at night?  The kittens cannot regulate their body heat until they are 3 weeks old and they cannot digest food it they get cold.

You can put a heating pad under part of the nest.  The kittens need room to move off it if they get too warm.

No clue but I will definitely find out, I don't think my mom would like it if I use our heating pad, she already complains that I smell like a cat from spending hours with Kitty, but I can try to find some other heat source, while I do, can Kitty help keep them warm? They're on a blanket in a quiet dark corner where my little siblings will not bother them

You can put some raw rice in a sock.  Microwave it for 5 minutes.  It will hold the heat for about 4 hours.  Make sure to put a towel or blanket over it so the kittens are not directly on the heat source.  If it is that warm during the day, you may only need to worry at night.  But check the temp often.

Can you put layers of cardboard under the blanket so it isn't directly on the ground.  It will insulate the kittens from the cold which can seep through blankets.

How about a hot water bottle?  Again cover it with something so the kittens are not directly on the  heat source.  How large is the blanket.  The kittens can roll and move a little and if they roll off they may not be able to get back on the blanket.  Can you put them in a box or something.  It will need to be long enough for mom to stretch out to nurse.

Before I put the blanket I found a huge box, I put a pillow in it and took the kittens and Kitty into the garage, she pick up a kitten and carried it back to the blanket, so I put away the box and got the blanket instead. She stayed, I shaped it into a little nest so the kittens couldn't get out

Maybe.  Where are you in the world?  What's the temperature today and what time is it there?  If you are in a very warm area it may not matter, however young kittens can become ill very quickly.

So Chicago weather says a low of 76 degrees tonight.  Any idea of the temperature in the garage?  It gets cooler than that here at night and I have seen a feral cat w/kittens So she might be okay w/o a heat source.  Can you get some cardboard and put it under the blankets.  I'm just remembering how the cold can seep through sleeping bags at night when camping.

As long as mom is with them they will be just fine. If you imagine how many thousands, even millions of cats give birth outside, in all sorts of temps, it is their instinct to keep them toasty warm despite the temps, she will warm them.

One thing though, be VERY careful about how you make up their spot, when I read that you put a pillow in the box I was anxious to tell you to take it back out asap. I realize you are trying to help them be cozy, the thing is though, the babies scoot around and will get in between the box and the pillow or under it, and suffocate.

They will be great, you are doing a good thing by caring for mom and her kits. Feed her canned whenever possible, and lots of fresh clean water often for good milk production.

Check them for fleas when you can since they can eat a baby into anemia or worse, and mom will do the rest :)

Yes I am, and I also have some huge concerns when they get older...I didn't mention this before but the whole garge is filled with shelves which are filler with cans of who knows what, so I definitely need to move them back but for now I think they're good

And as soon as the babies are old enough to be on their own for a while, I'll make an appointment to get her spayed
