Hi,

I am writing as my 10 month old kitten who is normally so healthy is now very sick. He has been feverish for 5 days now and we brought him to the vet the first day we noticed he looked bad- lethargic, fur looked messed up, third eyelid was out. He had a 103.5 fever which vet said was ok, we could take him home after he gave blood tests and antibiotics and X-ray. He gave some fluids subcutaneous. We watched him the next two or so days and he was kind of better and then worse. We took his temperature and it seemed normal. He kept curling up all the time and loked a bit sick. The 4th morning I woke up and he could barely open his eyes with the eyelids up. He was eating the whole week but then that morning did not. I immediately rushed him to the bet and they admitted him immediately as he had a 105+ fever. He has been at hospital with an iv since for a day and a half. Took 5 hours to get fever down. He was eating. Then this am he had a 104.5 fever again. His eyes have a little discharge, and his eyelids are a bit out. He is negative for FiP and Fiv, his whit cells were low at first but got better. I let him go outside on the patio a few times but only monitored. I have no idea what is wrong with him and am so scared. I know there are a lot of posts about FUO but I don't know what to think. Any help?

Did the vet do a complete blood panel.

They did and nothing abnormal came up at all. He seems weak in his back legs too. Thanks for any advice!

How worrisome!!  If he is interested in eating at all, you might try giving him some L-lysine and CoQ10. Also, some extra probiotics might help his immune system fight this off.  Diluted unflavored Pedialyte might help him keep dehydrated. Also, wiping the bottom of his paws with cool, damp washcloths may make him more comfortable.  He is especially blessed that you are able to take him to the vet & has a safe, comfortable home and loving family to help him in his recovery.....one of my feral colonies is grieving the sad loss of 2 sick kittens and also the "rescue" of the remaining 4 kittens in the group...a retired couple took in the other little ones but they were so sick, they couldn't run away.  Please keep us updated & meanwhile, plenty of prayers and vibes coming your way!

This is very similar to what happened to my cat last year. Low white blood cells--spring fever. I went thru this exact same thing for about 2 weeks. We tried several antibiotics and nothing seem to work. Then just one day his fever broke-he wouldn't eat at the vet so they made me take him home because he had been in there 3 days and wouldn't eat! He was slow and not himself for about a week after the final vet visit--but with 105 fever I can imagine what that did to his little brain.
What does the vet say the next step is??

So, some good news here...The blood panel came back and it was a tick bite!  Ehrlichliosis !  I guess cats dont' normally get it but he did!  I have him on four weeks of doxycycline now and he's doing so much better!  He was in the ER for four days and four nights but is on a great path to recovery now!  Thank you all for your help! And, I hope that your cats are all doing well!   Amy
