I have a male kitten who is 6 months old and the last 2 months he has gained a very annoying habit of trying to lay sucking mine or my 16yr old daughter's fingers, hand or arm. I got him castrated a month ago and thought maybe he would stop this habit but no joy there. Is this a normal habit?

Yes, it's a comfort thing. Is he kneading while he is suckling? Some cats never outgrow it. My cat does it when he's hungry and he's over a year.

He just suckles, I was worried that there was something wrong with him as he left his mum at 6 weeks because she was no longer interested in her 2 kittens
When they are separated from their moms too early they may suckle for life. I had a cat who suckled constantly. I gave her a furry teddy bear and would put her to it on the bed and she would knead and suckle that bear until she wore his fur off and there were little "nipples" everywhere. She loved that bear! I had another cat who used to suck on an old terrycloth bathrobe of mine. Both kittens were rescues who I took in at 5 weeks old.
