Hey, all. Percival is 12 weeks old, and I got him as a stray about a week ago. He had his first set of vaccinations and a dewormer four days ago (and I discovered he came with roundworms!). Long story short, I work night shift, was an idiot and thought he just had a crazy night when he unusually stayed asleep most the day, and found out this afternoon that he's holding up his left front paw when he sits or stands up. He's putting a little weight on it now when he moves across the bed or limps to the litter box, but I have to lift him into the box, he's not digging or covering his output, and he cries when he tries to settle down to sleep. I gently pressed along the leg and he cries at the paw and about an inch up from there, and cries if I lift his leg a little. Even lying there, his leg is folded up a bit, or tucked toward his chest if he's on his back. A break or sprain? There's no open wound and there doesn't appear to be anything stuck in his paw. He's been sleeping all day, and maybe most urgently, he has not eaten. I even offered tuna, and that's when I knew he was in a bad place. He's my little wild boy, but my space is pretty kitten-proof (coming from a first time cat lady), and the highest he can go is my desk which is about 2 feet off the ground. He's a bit big, nearly 4lbs. I don't know if he landed wrong or got it stuck somewhere. A few people have told me not to panic and to give him a couple days, but his lack of appetite is freaking me right out.

I put some bits of tuna on his good leg and preyed on his need for grooming in order to get him to eat a few nibbles, but after three bites, he just stopped cleaning himself until I took it off him. I had some KMR powder that I mixed up, and I added a drop of karo syrup since it had been 16 hours since he ate, and I gave him a few droppers of the mix. It says on the powder container not to give them more than a teaspoon per 5lbs, and so I'm thinking about watering down some of his pate and trying to put that in the dropper to feed him from. Is that too much? Should I leave him alone? How long a period of time is it okay for him not to eat? I don't want to make him sick but I know kittens need to eat pretty frequently to survive. I lost a bottle baby about a month ago, a beautiful little newborn that lost her appetite for two feedings and suddenly died in my arms, so I'm not coming from a good place on this either.

Unfortunately, the vet couldn't get him in until 1pm tomorrow, so I've got a night and half a day to get him through. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks, guys.

Maybe try Fancy Feast, cats usually like it. The worse the food is, meaning with more fat and such the more they like it. Or cet one of those small pouches with broth.

Is that the only vet in your town? In my area I discovered one that doesn't give out appointments you can just go and wait

I'll pick some of those up today, thanks! I'm willing to try anything to get him to eat. The vet gave me Nutra-Cal today, as well as antibiotics and pain meds. Poor thing had a temp of 104.8. They got him in two hours earlier today, and at the office, he started favoring the opposite leg than had been hurting him all last night. The vet thinks he might have landed on it wrong and also has some infection, or it's the calicivirus from his vaccinations a few days ago. Wonderful. I went to protect him and ended up getting him sick and in pain. Now I'm freaking out about his boosters for next month if he reacted so terribly to the first round.

Find out first what it is. I'm no vet but common sense would suggest this leg is hurt somehow, not some infection in the whole body

Sending mega prayers and vibes that Percival makes a speedy recovery!!! Bless you for taking him in! He may have already had this infection going on & sometimes the vaccines help them stay healthier in the long run. If love can make this little guy healthy, I know that with your heart, he is gonna be just fine

You might want to wait a little longer to give the booster shots if the infection hasn't been totally cleared up. I'm sending "get Well" vibes to Percival...strays seem to be the most appreciative of cats. I honestly think that they remember who "rescued" them and favor that person above others throughout their lives. Get Well Soon, Percival!
