Best time to neuter?

Should I wait till after he gets through puberty before I neuter?

My last cat I put to sleep because of this.

What age should I neuter?

My understanding is that it's recommended as early as 8 weeks.  Some vets might recommend waiting until 16 weeks but earlier neutering is not really a problem.  There is no need to wait until 6  months when male kittens are considered sexually mature.

My vet is one of the ones that recommends waiting until 4 or 5 months.  They do work for rescues where they neuter at 8 weeks or 2 pounds so the kittens can go up for adoption.  For kitties that are in thier forever home they recommend doing it a bit later.  Anesthetic is considered safe for the tiny kittens but they like to wait a bit if it isn't necessary to do it that young.

Anytime after 2 pounds is when they can be neutered.  I had mine done when he was about 3 months old.

I would definitely not recommend waiting until after puberty if you're inclined to kill a cat for spraying :/. Have it done before 6 months.

When people call the vet I work for I tell them 12 weeks old or at least 3 pounds.  That is what the vets say.  None of them will do it if they weigh less than 3 pounds.  I have my boy scheduled for July 30th, He will be 15 weeks then.
