Sorry if this is in the wrong place I didn't know where else to put it.

OK so here is the situation.  I have an 11 year old male cat who was diagnosed with IBD.  He has major issues with the vet to the point where I can't take him because he turns into the devil literally.  Anyway I tried calling the vet 4 times last year to get a sedative to get him in for his annual but no one called be back.  So I pretty much said screw it.  Pumpkin has been doing OK except for the past couple of days he is loosing more weight which I know is bad he doesn't want to play anymore and to be honest he looks like crap.  He is pretty much skin and bones. I have come to the point where it is do I let him go and end his suffering or not.  So I called the vet this morning to see about getting him to be euthanized, I really don't want to watch him waste away to nothing anymore.  the receptionist preceded to tell me that a vet wouldn't call me cause they haven't seen my cat in over a year. When I told her that I tried to get something from them before so I could bring him in last year and no one called me back she just kind of blew it off.  then preceded to tell me that they would need to see him and asses his quality of life as to whether or not to euthanize.  When the hell did it become not my choice anymore?  I always thought that ultimately it was the owners decision when that time came. More then likely I will be finding a new vet cause I am tired of this ****.

Anyway I am looking for suggestions on putting weight on him.  He is on fancy feast turkey and giblets because that is pretty much the only food that won't make him sick.  What can I give him to help put some weight on or maintain his weight.  He is eating about 3 cans a day on most days, but of course not getting a lot of nutrients because of the IBD.  Also is there a vitamin or probiotic supplement that I can give him to help with the nutrients he isn't getting.

If he is eating 3 cans a day and still losing weight, he does need to see a vet for an evaluation and probably a blood test. If you cannot see the previous vet I would act quickly in finding another one. At this stage, and with IBD, it would be dangerous for anyone to suggest treatment without a professional opinion. I do hope you find someone who can see him.

Thanks JennyR.  I am waiting to hear back from the vet about getting a sedative for him.  If I don't hear back from them I will be done with them and calling another vet.  I understand them wanting to see him really I do.  My financial situation is really tight at the moment as I just filed for bankruptcy and cant get a credit card at the moment. I also think their receptionists need an etiquette lesson on what to say to a client over the phone.  Its just not right to tell an owner that no vet will call them back.
