For the past 2 nights my roommate's cat has been pooping outside my bedroom door.

Background:

I've been living with my roommate for 3 months.  We got a new apartment together.  I've never met her cats before.  She has two cats.  The one pooping is the non dominant cat.  I'm guessing its the one because its two little turd balls, which is the kind she poops.  Their litter box isn't full, because I am the one that cleans it, and I am the one that feeds them.  She is never home to take care of them.  And no offense, but cats are not my pet of choice.  I don't treat them badly, I just don't show them attention other than cleaning their litter box everyday and feeding them.  The cat that has been pooping is always outside my bedroom door when I come out of my room and she always tries to sneak into my room.  Last thing, this cat has butt problems.  We think it is impacted butt glands cause of the little poop and she rubs her butt across the carpet.  I've told my roommate to take her to the vet and she hasn't yet.

So, what can I do to keep her from pooping on the floor, especially in front of my door?  Does she hate me or what?

This is a really sad situation.  Your roommate really needs to get it together with her cats or rehome them to someone who will give them the care and attention they deserve.  You shouldn't be the one to have to worry about them, but thank you for being there for them.  Cats may not be your pet of choice, but it sounds like they have made you their human of choice, since you are the one who actually cares for them.

Okay, enough of that.  To get to your specific question....  It sounds like the kitty needs to go to the vet now.   When a cat changes its litter box behavior, it is often the case of an underlying health condition and it sounds like that may well be the case here.  You might be right that her anal glands need expressing.  Although I have never had to deal with this problem in my cats, it's my understanding this isn't a terribly expensive proposition so your roommate needs to take her pet to the vet now and take this seriously.

Good luck with this problem!

Yes, it is sad these guys are being neglected by their owner - thank you for being nice & trying to find a solution versus just being angry at these poor kitties :)

If they are dragging their butts on the ground, they NEED to go to the vet.   It's likely either an issue with worms, allergies, or anal glands - none of which are going to be costly to fix.

If you really want to go a little above & beyond, take a peek at her butt to inspect its cleanliness (yes kind of gross, I know) - she may have some dingleberries or something back there that gently wiping off for her may help to alleviate the issue.

Maybe it would also help to put in an additional litterbox in the apartment - an open tray kind (not one with the housing over it).   Maybe she doesn't like the current litterboxes or type of litter.   Most cats prefer the open litter tray as opposed to the "house" style ones.    I would at least do that much for the cat (put in an extra litter tray).

Please try to make your roommate get this cat to a vet though - sadly easier said than done, I know.....

I told her it happened and again and that she needs to take her cats to the vet and change the litter brand. The kind she uses doesn't hide the smell of the pee anyway. I'd take them, but I'm broke, plus I'm not a fan of cats. That being said, I will not let a defenseless animal starve or live in nasty conditions. No animal deserves that, even if they aren't my choice of pet. I'll pressure her again next week if she hasn't taken them again, and I'll pressure her till she does.
Btw, I'm not mad at the cats. The one pooping by my door seems like she can't help it or if she is mad at me, I'd like to know so I can try to fix the situation.

No, I don't think the cat is mad at you.  She views you as her caretaker and might be trying to tell you there is a problem.  She is certainly trying to get your attention about something.

Thank you so much for being there for these poor cats.  I really hope your roommate listens to you.
