Here is my story.

I left my ex Sept 17 2013 and the cat went with him.  She got out on Thursday and the vet picked her up Thursday night, said she was very dyhyrated and needed vet care.  I had called the SPCA to see if they had see this cat or had this cat in there care as my son was upset over the lost cat.. Sure enough they found her great!!! but attached was a 1000 vet bill!  Since she had a rabies collar on (old information) and since I had called in to ask about if they found her, (took my name and address etc first).  they state that the bill will be put into my name anyways as they rabies shots years ago was attached to me.  so now a single mother of two who doesn't even have the cat is stuck paying 1000. this doesn't seem fair.

So the cat got out of your ex's house and the vet is the one who found her the same day? Exactly what did the vet do that cost $1000?? If the cat had on a rabies tag that had contact information on it, why didn't he/she contact you prior to racking up a $1000 bill?  Was the cat in danger of dying? Do you know this vet? Sorry but this sounds kind of shady to me. Most vets would call someone and say Hey I found your cat and she's got x and y wrong with her. Do you authorize me to do this and that?

yes she has been with the Ex since we split in Sept 17 2013.  she left the house about 9-930 on July 9th and they picked her up and did the intake at the vet at 1030 on July 9th, said she was found dehydrated and needed to be stableized.  1020!!!! to stable a cat!!!

The rabies tag was out of date and was to the old address, apparently a letter was sent there but no reply.  The only reason they have my new contact info is because I called to see if she was there as my son was very upset.  so now since they have my info they said I will get sent the bill regardless.!! how is this fair.  I picked up the cat and returned her to the ex houses.

I don't see how they could enforce that bill on you. Seems like an unethical situation to me.

So you already paid the bill? Is it itemized? The cat belongs to your ex who is responsible for her medical expenses. your ex should reimburse you even if that has to be over time. I'm trying to wrap my brain around this.

The cat got out at 9-930 on 7/9.

The cat was picked up by the vet the very same day at 1030

Was this AM to PM? The cat was out loose about 13 hours?

What could have happened in those 13 hours that required $1020.00 in vet bills? Was she hit by a car? Attacked by another animal or by a  person? Was she ill when she escaped?

Regardless, your ex is the cat's owner and therefore needs to pay you back for the bill if you paid it already or pay the vet if you have not. I'm guessing that since the cat was released to you that you did.
