Interesting article about adults coloring:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/21/adult-coloring-books_n_7088048.html

There are people who participate in coloring clubs, where everybody gets together to color. Kind of like a book club, but coloring. I find it all very fascinating.
There are lots of news articles and such on the adult coloring book trend
Here's one: http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/201...-mainstream/zXP8fefdVWUzxHEr45cBxO/story.html Coloring seems to give the brain a break from the demands of life to just relax. Plus it's just fun to color

Coloring clubs / groups? I've never heard of that but I imagine they do exist.

Off to find what the status my order is now ..... I forgot it's 5-8 business days for processing
So today is actually day 6 post-order submission.

That's insane.I don't remember any order I've placed from Amazon ever taking that long to process unless it ended up being cancelled (even before I had Prime). 99.9 % of my orders from them are Prime eligible because I want the free 2 day shipping and I do not want to deal with other sellers if I have to return something. DD lost the charger to her Playstation Vita and I ordered her a new one from Amazon. It didn't come with the USB cable  which she didn't notice until it was delivered (she picked it out. Big dummy me didn't check the reviews before ordering it. I figured she had. Won't do that again).
They had the USB cable but the one that she needs is from a 3rd party seller. They shipped it but who knows when it will get here. I'd advise you to cancel and reorder but if you do, it would probably just restart the clock from the beginning. You don't want that. I'd be as mad as this guy-----

Colouring clubs sounds interesting, but I wonder if they get all competitive?   I'd hate to be in a competitive one, it would just be nice to share what everyone's doing like we are here, and be able to maybe access different materials like trying out pencils and markers everyone had, learning techniques, and seeing what designs were around.

This morning I finally got round to taking photos of the two cat books I got

Nice as the paper is smooth, thick, and only printed on one side.  The book is A5 too so nice and easy to carry about if you want to.

This book is about 10" x 10" and while paper is nice quality again the pages are printed on both sides so if you used a lot of marker pen it would seep through.  I plan on using pencil only with this book.

The Chats one was good value on Amazon, costing less than £4.  I was really surprised at the quality when it arrived, and there is a lot of variety in the designs included in it too.  I'm working on that one first to try and learn some technique with the colour pencils as I have never used them before (or at least not since elementary school).

I think I would love a coloring club....as long as it was with people as '(un)talented as I am!!!

It would be fun... some snacks, drinks--alcoholic and non-alcoholic, making new friends...it would be something so different....not having a deadline for reading, etc...

heck, they have Painting Nights, so why not Coloring Nites and Coloring Clubs?????

anyone live near me???? WE can start one...

Amazon says my order should arrive by July 31. If I don't get a shipment confirmation by Friday morning, I'm cancelling the order and re-ordering everything
And I'm complaining to Amazon about it

I hope not. I hate it when things start out fun and then turn competitive.

I love the cat coloring books
The Chats one is $27.95 US on Amazon (!) Expensive for a coloring book.

If you go to someone's house, there may be actual cats or other pets to play with

@Artiemom, sent you a PM.

I am still waiting for my colored pencils. I tried to cancel the order, but Amazon said it was too late. It was already in the process of being shipped...

I have neve had to wait this long for a delivery from Amazon!! I am wondering why!

I also looked at the local Staples....they are cheaper there.......so mad!!

That is SO not good, and they say too late to cancel?  If they have gone over their contract length for delivery then surely you have a right to cancel or get refunded?
I'd be tempted to go buy in Staples then return to Amazon when they do eventually arrive is they still hold their line of not being able to cancel them.

Can't believe how much more expensive that Chats book is on US Amazon @LTS3.  That's shocking.  Checked price here just now and UK has it for £3.29!

Artiemom, if I lived closer, I'd be there! I think it would be fun. I wouldn't want to be competitive. A bit of wine, a little nosh, and some crayons. And cats! How much better could that get??

LTS3, something is very funky with your order. I'd complain to Amazon. A lot. There's no excuse for that length of time. And MServant has a good point about just going to Staples and then returning your Amazon order. Don't even open the package. And then tell them why.

MServant, nice books. Love the cat one!

Artiemom,  I am in Methuen, not sure where near Boston you are located!

I ordered Prismacolor pencils from ebay -- the Spanish version are less money, but the same colors, same company etc.

My order is finally on it's way
It's just the two books and pencil sharpener. It's supposed to arrive on Friday. The Prismacolor pencils are from a third party seller and still "not yet shipped"
Can't do anything with something to color with

I've notcied that after you purchase an item from Amazon and later go view the item again, the price is higher. I got the Prismacolor pencils for $39.95 a week and a half ago. It's now listed by the same seller as $49.50
I bought something a year ago for $6. I really liked it and wanted to buy another one. The price went up to $15 not including shipping. I decided not to buy the item at the jacked up price. I'm checking it now and it's $4 with free shipping on orders over $25.

I finally got my pencils today!!

Oh-and listen to this!!

It cam in a shipping envelope!! not a box! When I opened the envelope, the pencils fell out, landing all over the floor!! I was furious!

I looked at the box: The cover was not even closed; and of course not taped shut!!!

I fired off a complaint to Amazon and to the seller....

Now we will see if i am able to color...I have shoulder issues..otherwise I will donate it to anyone who wants it..

@LTS3   I do think the pricing is quite wild on Amazon and despite their supposedly being cheap not everything is, like you saw with Staples.  I think the colouring stuff I bought was all decently priced but then most of it was discounted (other than the French Chats book funnily enough).   I noticed a big price hike in some cat treats a couple of weeks ago and I think that coincided with them getting harder to find in the supermarkets here.  They cost more than twice as much as the amount I paid the week before with a more local pet supplier!

@Artiemom  That is terrible about how the pencils were packed!  Given all the reviews note how fragile the colour pencils are you would expect due care to be taken with packing.  Make sure and check none of the central crayons are to be broken.  The prismacolour ones I got from Amazon were in a reasonable size box for them and the books, so the pencils could be well protected in packing paper.  The tin was cellophane wrapped shut as well.   Don't know what brand of pencils you bought but if prismacolour I'd be wary.

Did you take picutres of the envelope to send wth your complaint? I had to do that twice before. One came in a flimy envelope and the item package inside was completely smushed flat. Fortunately the item itself was undamaged. The other package came in a large box that was dented everywhere and the top was gaping open. I don't remember what I ordered but it was undamaged.

Sometimes multiple sellers on Amazon sell the same item so I make it a point to check the "Other Sellers" list under the Add to Cart button to see if I can get a better price from another seller or directly from Amazon.

I wonder how Amazon works out their pricing? It just varies so much, even daily.

No, I did not take a picture of it. The pencils seem ok. A few tips are broken off. The were  Pre-sharpened. I am concerned that when I sharpen them, I may find that they are broken in the lead.

They are Crayola pencils.

I  also splurged and ordered the prismacolor in addition. Those should arrive this week

Yes, I was the one who found that Stapes was cheaper for the Crayola.

I have noticed the prices on Amazon are higher than what I am seeing advertised elsewhere.

I was temopte to order asom Proviable Probiotics form my cat, but thougt against it after my experience with this. I ordered it from Chewy. It was actually $4 shipping from Chewy and $6 shipping from Amazon. It did not meet the eligibility for Prime shipping. That is aggravating. They are now used $40-$50 as a baseline for Prime Shipping. If this continues, I will not order from Amazon anymore.

I could get it at the Vet, and not have a shipping fee, but it is almost twice as much money...for less capsules.

@Artiemom   Hope your Prismacolour pencils arrive soon and in good condition.   I am so glad I read what others here had written about the Prismacolor pencils:  I had never heard of them before, and hadn't even thought of trying out colour pencils for colouring as always thought the colours were going to be muted and the pencils scratchy.  Then I saw the colour intensity Draco was getting, read how hard others were working with other makes to achieve the finish they were getting, and figured it would be worth going for ones other people were happy with. The Prismacolor pencils are great fun and it's really easy to experiment and get different effects.  The finish I'm getting now with my colouring is way better than I could ever have done with the fineliner pens I used before.  Well worth the money (bought on offer of course).  They do need sharpening a lot though.

We used Prismacolor markers to do our rendering in college.  They are fun to work with!!  The department had a cart loaded with them; but I had some of my own.  The school's were always in use so it was nice to have my own stash.  I never tried the pencils though.  They might have to go on my "for me" shopping list.  I have been using an app in Chrome to track the price of some things on Amazon.  You can tell it to e-mail you when it hits a certain price.  You can also see the price history of the item.

You all are making me want to pull my books out; but I just don't have time right now.  Soon I hope!
