Hello everyone,
This pains me to write this, but I believe I will have to put my 2 1/2 yr old Turkish Angora up for adoption. I am planning on moving in with my boyfriend and he is highly allergic to cats. Also, my cat is somewhat feral and is a "biter." He has bitten and scratched my boyfriend's children on several occasions. He bites me too. I do love my cat but don't see how this can work. I think the best option is for someone who doesn't have children to adopt him. We live in Los Angeles. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am a huge animal lover and completely understand how many of you feel about adopting a cat and then giving him away when it no longer works for your lifestyle. I just don't know what else to do.
Thank you.

Have you tried gradually introducing your cat to your boyfriend? What worries me about re-homing him is that he even play-bites you, and someone else might not be tolerant of that. Did you use your hands to play with him as a kitten? This could possibly cause/factor this behavior. Also could I ask, is your boyfriend allergic regarding respiratory symptoms or is it contact wise?

Jasper bit me from the day I brought him home at about eight weeks old. He attacked my body including my face and head from day one. I was actually afraid to go to sleep at night for awhile because I thought he would attack my face. I tried to give him back to the person I adopted him from but they would not take him. I have gradually gotten him to be less aggressive but he still bites quite a bit. My boyfriend gets physical symptoms when around him. His kids think Jasper is "evil" which saddens me because I don't feel he is evil at all.

How sad. I do think you will have a harder time placing him because of this. I wonder if the Vet can give you some kind of rx medication that will calm his nerves so he will not be so highly strung.

I tried medication when he was younger and it had no effect whatsoever.

Can you look for a Turkish Angora cat rescue or  a Humane Society? They may take him. Please do not put him in any shelters, I do not think he would make it out of one. I am not trying to make you feel bad or anything like that, I just want you to be aware that with his issues, it really wouldn't be a good idea.

Please don't worry. I would never put him in a shelter. I appreciate your advice. I will look into Turkish Angora rescues.

Did his previous owner get him from a breeder? If so, do you have any way of finding out who the breeder was? Many breeders will take back cats if the owners are unable to keep them for whatever reason.

It's a sad & unfortunate situation for sure. I'm glad you found an angora rescue, I would think they would be the best help for you. You may also want to ask your vet if she knows anyone that would be interested, since she knows how the cat is, she may know a good fit. Just the right person.  ...Just another idea for you. Best of luck. keep us posted.
