I've never refinished any piece of furniture before.. but I found this piece by the dumpster while dog-walking earlier at lunch. I loved the asian inspired feel of it!

It needs to be refinished as the corners and edges are all damaged. I figured sanding it down, and spray painting it. Maybe I'll find some nice decals or stencils to put some art back on in the inlays.

Has anyone ever refinished a piece of furniture? I wanna see your before and afters, and hear your tips!

I've never refinished anything, so no help here. I just can't believe someone was chucking that out. It's such a gorgeous shape.

(My first instinct for that was 'Wow. That'll transform into an amazing scratching post.... :anon: )

Columbine Columbine Yep, and a shelf for the cats to hide inside.

Seriously, this piece looks to be in amazing shape. Would some black enamel paint work to just touch up the places where the paint is off. The decals look good.

the chipped paint part is pretty rough.. it needs to be sanded smooth. it's almost like a bird or something chewed through pieces of the wood.

and I thought about making it into an awesome cat tree too! lol

I guess the photo just looks better than the actual piece. I have done some refinishing in the past but it was all antique oak furniture, nothing even similar to what you have here.

Not a cat tree. After you've refinished it, plop some nice, comfy pillows there on the shelf and right below on the bottom. Your cats have a great bed!

That is a gorgeous piece! You know, even if you just sand it all down to get rid of the marks and then just stain it to match some of your other furniture, it would be beautiful. With or without the stencils.

I've never redone furniture. But I wish I had your piece....I really like it, Draco.
