Maybe she will need more than just a week's worth.

You could also ask your regular vet what he would charge for surgery. The emergency vet is always way more.

I just did some research. Baytril is one of the strongest, most effective and highly rated antibiotics on the market in its class to treat bacterial infections.

Turns out that intact queens who endure repeated heat cycles without mating are susceptible to developing pyometra. So had she been spayed this would not occur because she would no longer have a uterus to get infected.

It is a dangerous and life-threatening infection due to the risk of septic shock if the bacteria gets into her bloodstream.

The best cure is spay surgery to remove the affected organs - uterus and ovaries.

What I am thinking is that after a week on Baytril maybe she can be spayed by your regular vet - not the one who thought she was just fine the other day - and that the surgery, along with continued antibiotics, may bring her back to health. The vet would need to know all that has transpired and advise you on the surgery, but it is essentially a spay that is needed, according to what I read. Of course she is filled with pus so care would have to be taken but hopefully much of it will begin to drain. You are very lucky that it is open pyometra.

You need to see that she does not get dehydrated now, especially if she is not eating. Try to offer tuna water if she will not eat her wet food, and syringe clear pedialyte if necessary.

Thanks so much. I'm going to call other reputable vets and look for a more decent price everyone know that animal hospital is expensive. Once she is healed she is getting spayed. Thanks so much for looking up what you did that helps and she is eating and drinking and eating wet food. Only problem I'm wondering she is constantly licking down there and it's the pus I don't know how good that can be for her

She probably needs to be spayed as soon as possible to get the uterus out so the infection is totally gone, so please don't delay speaking with vet clinics this week. Pyometra is hard to get rid of with just antibiotics. She needs the spay surgery as soon as the vet thinks it's safe to have it - possibly immediately. Please make calls tomorrow. It's very serious!

I am glad to hear she is eating and drinking. I don't know that there is much you can do about the licking other than putting an Elizabethan collar on her.

Let us know how she is tomorrow and what the vets say that you call.

They won't spay her yet they said the surgery is risky enough I'm hoping for her to finish the antibiotics and hope the infection settles down and then do it. She literally looks like she was full term pregnant that's how big her stomach was.

So day 2 on the medicine. We have been measuring her belly ever since we thought she was pregnant and it was 17 inches the day we brought her to the animal hospital today it's already gone down to 15. Ties should be a big wake up call to lots of people about spaying their cars bc this is a deadly disease. She seems tho to be in pain when we pick her up she goes back tomorrow to get looked at and see how things are going

I'll bet she is in pain. It must feel awful. Can you inquire about pain meds for her tomorrow?

It should be a wakeup call for sure! Your cat could have died if you weren't so vigilant and sharp. I'm not sure she's out of the woods yet either.

We are bringing her to same place as they found this and for surgery if needed will be somewhere else just have to see if I can get her records w ultrasound and X-rays as I don't want them to have to pay for that again. I'm waiting till tomorrow see what vet says about how she's doing and I will inquire about the pain medicine for her as well didn't think about tags thanks

They should be able to release the records. Your father in law paid for them.
