Is 1/2 can Sheba pate and 1/2 cup Purina One hairball formula dry enough food for my cat?

He's a little oversight (currently 14 1/4 lbs), indoor, Ragdoll mix, only cat.
I'm trying to bring him down to about 12-13 pounds.
It seems to be "just enough" food that he is hungry at feeding time. But I worry about giving him fatty liver if it's too low an amount of food.

He is fed 12 hours apart, gets 1/4 cup dry before I leave for work (he nibbles the dry). Last night he inhaled the 1/2 can of Sheba then nibbled the 1/4 cup of dry I put down before bedtime. By the time I got up, he was pawing at me because he was hungry.

Dry is 200 calories
1/2 can Sheba is around 60 (?)

Seems low, but the point is to lose weight. He also gets a bite or two of people food a few times a week, as well as >5 treats a day.

He still needs roughly 230 kcals per day. This is just an average and will also depend on how active he is.

My guess is that he needs the full 3 oz of Sheba with 1/4 or so of the dry.

Thank you both!! My plan is to eventually get him to the full can a day, but he really won't eat canned unless he is good and hungry.

So my current feeding is still too high in calories? I've been gradually cutting down the dry, from free feeding to 1 cup, to 3/4 cup. This still seemed to not help, so I cut it to just under 3/4 cup. Last two days he seems hungry, so I tried the Sheba (was all I had) and cut the dry down. Hoping to get dry to a minimum as he is an altered male.

He also likes Friskies turkey filet. If he gets 1/2 can of that a day is 1/4 cup of the Sheba still enough?

Typically, 1/4 cup of dry and 2.5-3 oz of wet is suitable for most cats. But, you have to tweak things a bit for each cat.

Also, look at the protein and carb content of the dry food. If carb is high, this can contribute to him being hungry, despite calorie intake.

Do you have a scale to weigh him on at home?

You surely do want to go slowly with the weightloss, about about maybe a quarter pound a week. No more than a full pound a month, as a pound to a cat is about 10 pounds to a human, size wise.
