I have two cats, Storm and Rain. They are both 5 years old. Storm is my cuddle bug and Rain is very independent. I work up in the middle of the night to Rain meowing (he almost never does) but this was a persistent meow. I got up and I saw that he threw up. I cleaned it and went back to bed. And hour later I woke up to him meowing and almost throwing up again. He never likes to cuddle but today he has been following me non-stop. He isn't acting like himself. Is this alarm to take him to the vet?

It seems like Storm is trying very hard to tell you something. An occasional case of vomiting would not bother me as much as the change in behavior and the meowing. I would take him to the vet myself.

I took him to the vet and he has a small foreign body in his tummy so we are waiting for him to pass it out. Thanks!!! :) For now it's tons of cuddles.

Last night he me owed in the middle of the night again, which is unusual, and then today he defeated outside of his litter box. Right outside of it. He is still puking a bit but not large quantities like before. I'm not sure what this means.

How did the vet determine a foreign object was the problem? If an X-Ray or ultrasound wasn't done, it sounds like that might be the next step. Is Storm eating and drinking ok?

He did and ultrasound and it showed something but he didn't want to open him up. He's been eating, I haven't seen him drink.

If Rain leaves, do you think Storm will be alright? I'll go back to college in about 3 weeks but my husband will be here. He is a farmer though so he will be gone during the day. Will Storm get depressed. They have been together since birth, so 5 years.

When you say 'if Rain leaves' are you worried that he's not going to make it? I'm so sorry if this might be the case :hugs:

Yes, cats do grieve and mourn for one another, but they do adjust in time - much like people do - and there are things you can do to make the transition easier. One of the best ways I've found is to give Bach's Flower Remedies Walnut. It's best started before the event, and continued for some time after - basically until Storm appears to be back closer to hi normal self.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's always hard, but so much harder somehow when they should have many years left to enjoy. Mega :vibes: to you and your fur family.

What a dilemma. It would have to be the weekend. Since the object didn't pass with defecation, it sounds like Storm might need surgery after all. The question is: can you wait to take him until Monday so he could see his normal vet? And of course that's such a gamble - to wait. How does Storm act - is he lethargic or is he as active as usual?

I'm concerned about how Storm will act during the day/when he's alone

I think you need to be as calm as possible (really not easy in this situation, I know), as Storm will take his cues from you to a certain extent. Standard stress busting measures such as Feliway diffusers might be a good idea. I think that keeping Storm's routine as normal as possible is what will help him best.

I had a pair of bsh littermates who were mega close - Amber had been the runt of the litter, and Jamie had been his protector from the word go. Amber died from a stroke at 10 years old. Jamie coped very well, though he wasn't all alone - a year before Amber died, we'd got a labrador puppy. I think the presence of another animal really helped him.

We got another bsh pair a while after Jamie passed. They were never as close as Amber and Jamie, but they definitely loved each other. Cali passed last year. Shadow missed him, but again coped far better than we'd expected (as before, we had dogs still, so Shadow wasn't absolutely alone). We took Asha in in March, and Shadow accepted her magnificently. He loves having her around now.

I guess what I'm saying is that there is hope, even if the worst happens. Try not to stress about this aspect. Instead, focus your energies in giving Rain the best possible treatment, in the hope that this fear doesn't come true for many years to come.

I'll be thinking of you, Storm and Rain. Please let us know how Rain does.
