Eventually we'll get to a totally homemade cat food, but in the meantime my kitty with struvite crystals-- who hates everything except dry food (which he can't have) and 2 varieties of Fancy Feast, both with gravy, which isn't ideal--needs to get onto a higher protein diet. So Evo would be ideal. However, it doesn't have gravy.

I've tried making homemade bone broth from chicken bones and he doesn't like it. I'm hurt he doesn't like my yummy bone broth. :) I'm looking for ideas on making gravy that he'd love and that would lure him into the Evo.

His weakness seems to be liver. He seems to really like it.

I'd like to avoid using any grains for thickening. I could use some pureed potato or yam to thicken it.

Is it EVO canned? Have you tried adding water to the EVO canned and just mashing it up a little? Maybe add a little tuna water to it to make it more appealing. Add a little Fancy Feast gravy if you have to.

There are other brands of high protein canned foods if your cat won't eat EVO. Nature's Variety Instinct and Wild Calling are two. Wild Calling is 96% protein.

It is canned and I do add water, but there's something about the gravy he really likes. I'll look into that other cat food too. Thanks!

It might be the animal digest (probably listed a "natural" or "artifical" flavor) in the Fancy Feast gravy. Many cats love the taste of animal digest. You can sort of replicate the taste by using FortiFlora. Or add "stinkiness" to the EVO by putting crushed up freeze dried meat treats on top.

Nature's Variety Pride by Instinct is gravy/suace but with better quality ingredients: http://www.instinctpetfood.com/pride-instinct-grain-free-canned-cat-food

I don't know anything at all about the needs of cats with struvite crystals but since you mentioned liver and gravy, I thought I'd mention that our cats love Tiki's Gourmet Carnivore foods, particularly the ones with liver. Gourmet Carnivore foods have chunks and/or shreds of meat, and the ones with liver have especially slurpy sauces. There are no grains, potato, peas, tapioca, or other carby thickeners or fillers in Tiki's foods.

Tiki's a bit pricy but their foods are caloric and keep our cats sated for a long time. Best of all, our pickier cat loves them. We tried Gourmet Carnivore with a variety pack that I bought on Chewy.com; I've never fed the cats the seafood flavors but the variety pack was an easy way to try everything.

Good luck!
