I have 4 foster kittens that are around 13 weeks. I have them scheduled to be spayed & neutered tomorrow at a lost cost clinic. They've only had 1 FVRCP vaccine when they were around 9 weeks old. My plan was to only do 2 FVRCP shots (which i know is less than is normally recommended but I'm following the more conservative vaccine approach and giving the last vaccine at 16 weeks). My worry is that they could be susceptible to catching something since they aren't fully protected yet. I used this low cost clinic for their first set of shots and 2 of the 4 got mildly sick after their visit and had vomiting and diarrhea for a couple of days and required a vet visit for fluids. The vet said they probably "caught something" at the clinic.

Should i cancel the spay & neuter and wait until after 16 weeks to get them vaccinated and then do the spay & neuter? I wanted to get them spayed & neutered before trying to adopt them out and let the new owners decide how to deal with additional vaccinations, but I don't want to put their health at risk either.

Has anyone else spayed & neutered foster kittens at a young age prior to completing all FVRCP vaccines?

The kitten that we recently adopted came from a foster mom that had given one set of shots and done the spay surgery at a low cost clinic for feral/rescue cats at 11weeks old. The kitten ended up with a URI in our care several days later, but I don't think that came from the place where the surgery was done. It is more likely she caught it from our other cat since he carries the virus and was stressed by her arrival.

This is what I'm afraid of :( I don't want them to get sick again especially after going through surgery. Since its a lost cost mobile clinic there are lots of pets coming in and out daily. I'm heavily leaning towards canceling their surgeries and waiting 3 weeks to do the final FVRCP vaccine and then spay & neuter.

I definitely don't think it would hurt to wait. Adopting them out later also helps the kittens find more likely forever homes since they'll be lanky teenage cats rather than cute kittens that people adopt on impulse. I know a local shelter that won't adopt kittens out until they are this old for this exact reason.

I also think it should alright to wait a little, especially for the male kittens.

I've got 3 boys and 1 girl. I think I'm just going to wait. I'm not in a rush to find them homes yet they're doing well at my house with my resident animals and everything. But 7 cats might be too many long term lol

I have six myself, and about 25 more in a colony outdoors.  I am glad all yours get along really well. Maybe in time, you may keep them or you;ll find good homes for them. Regardless, you're doing a great thing for them.

Do you have any advice for trapping an elusive mama kitty? She's the mama of the kittens and I need to get her spayed ASAP because I think she's pregnant again :( She will NOT go in my trap though. I have left the trap open for weeks and tried slowly moving the food inside but she wont go in for it. Unfortunately there are other people in my neighborhood also feeding so I think she just goes other places for food.

Oh, wow, how sad. Can you possibly tell how far along she is? Is she very rounded? If you can see that she is visibly pregnant, I wouldn't recommend trapping her to have her spayed. Too far along. Have you looked into drop traps?

If you are sure you want to trap her, regardless, try covering the trap with a thick darker towel but leaving the back uncovered, and put in some sardines, tuna or other smelly cat food.

It would help a lot if you could go over to the neighbors and explain what you are trying to do, what days could they not set out food, or at least set it out later in the day and see what they say? It really would be easier if she is actually hungry and not just snacking.
