You could but I think a 3 month old would still be very hungry. Kittens need a lot of food to support their growth. if you're feeding dry food, leave a bowl of mesured out dry food out for the kitten to eat. I wouldn't put more than 2 cups of dry food in the bowl, though. If you find too much food left in the bowl at the end of the day, reduce the amount of food next time. If you're feeding canned food, you can leave a bowl of the food out all day or use a programmable timed feeder such as the Petsafe 5 compartment feeder or Cat Mate. If you're feeding both canned and dry, feed the canned when you are at home and leave some dry out when you are not.

If you are only feeding him 3 times a day and not having any food left out I don't think that is enough, they tend to get hungry more often than that.

For my 3 month old kitten I leave out some dry food in a dish for him to pick at whenever he is hungry, and feed him 1/4 of a can of 5 oz wet food 2-3 times a day.  I think it is important to get the wet food into them, and then the dry food being left out is good so you know they can get food if they are hungry.  If you are feeding only wet I would feed small amounts every few hours.
